This small island is a bit off the usual Venetian path, but it’s worth seeing. Its Santa Maria Assunta church houses impressive mosaics, its bell tower offers great surrounding views—and it’s home to Locanda Cipriani, a well-regarded restaurant and hotel that played host to writing legend Ernest Hemingway .

My favourite of the islands ... lots of little interesting shops to look in, lovely restaurants and cafes to sit and watch the world go by! The little coloured houses were the highlight though, the children loved taking photos of themselves in front of the bright houses. Well worth the visit!

Torchello, what can you say? It can be hard to get there but worth it every time. Catch a boat from the Fundament Nove and if you are lucky with connections and timing you'll soon be there. The Byzantine Cathedral is beautiful with stunning mosaics and Santa Fosca is smaller but just as atmospheric. Don't miss it.

There are two ancient churches on Torcello, the oldest being almost 1,000 years old and adorned with important mosaics. The island can be reached by vaporetto from Venice; the trip takes the better part of an hour and is in itself a scenic tour.

This little island is just about 10 minutes by the vaporetto from Burano, and it's less turistic. Though it seems like there's nothing there, there are the remains of a once big and beautiful city, from which there's only one basilic left. In the basilic there are beautiful ancient mosaics with a free audioguide adnd if you climb the campanile... More

We found our way after three vaporatti connections and it was well worth it. This island is small but very quiet versus Murano or Burano. Torcello has no shops, few restaurants but lovely brick walkways along a meandering canal. The church is a don't miss...amazing tile frescos. This island is very peaceful...we loved it.

This was where many early Christians fleeing the invading barbarians fled in the 5th century. The churches date from that time and have, thankfully, not been much tampered with later. Almost no one inhabits the island today, and other than the churches, a museum and a few restaurants there is nothing to see or do. But don't miss it!!

A visit to Torcello whilst in Venice is a must, this island is not geared up for the tourist, it's typical Italy. Very laid back but peacefully beautiful after all the hubbub of Venice. This was my favourite place.

This place has a great story to it, but it very small and does not take long to visit. I did appreciate that there are some very calm areas to get away from all the hustle bustle when you walk on the little paths. It a nice stop but no need to spend too much time there.

From santa lucia station take the no.3 vaporetto to murano and from murano take no. 12 that will tale you to burano/torcello islands. The island itself is very quiet, a couple of restaurants and some street vendors. I bought a very cheap pair of murano earrings for 5euros that was 10 in murano! The main attraction of the island is... More
