Address
Neighbourhood: Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Just over a year ago, in April, I was married in Venice. We travelled around Europe for two months but one of the most wonderful moments in all my journey was the few hours I spent over two days making a mask at Sogno Veneziano Atelier. My wife bought this for me as a present, knowing my love for masks and ancient crafts, and it one of the best and most thoughtful presents as ever I have received. The mask I made is the one I'm wearing in the picture attached.
Not only was the two day short course enjoyable and enriching, sending me away with the basis of a whole new skill, the staff were joyous people whom it was lovely to meet. I remained with Ektor and Igor (sorry if the spelling is wrong) and the two wonderful women also working there that day (whose names escape me now, a year later, also very sorry) for hours after my allotted time a they helped me finish touches on my mask, helped me practice my vestigial Venetian language skills, and regaled me with the philosophy and history of Venice. Igor spoke with me at length about his appreciation for true tourists who wanted to experience the life blood of his city and how he never wanted to treat tourists as a 'cash machine,' as some other tourist experiences may wish to do. This is one of the few genuine mask shops left in Venice that use no pre-made parts or plastics or shortcuts. My only regret is that it has taken me so long to get around to writing this review.
I'll also add that this has been a hard year for Venice, with floods, plague, and the damage of cruise ships. Please, if you have time now or in the future, support genuine Venetian businesses such as this one. You will feel like you have really touched something close to the heart of one of the most beautiful cities on Earth.

Carnival in Love Grand Ball 2017 "Labyrinth of Sins"
Thank you so much Giulia, Giacomo and Team for wonderful and magic moments on our visit to Venice. Awesome!
Arriving late on Friday evening in the "Sogno Atelier" for dress rehearsals. While waiting we had that much fun, laughing while trying dresses, changing accessories until everything fits perfectly. Giacomo switched on the Music, start dancing......
Saturday afternoon we found the Dresses in our Hotel room, ready for "TIME JUMP"....
Arriving at the Palazzo Benzon the alley was full of couples and people wearing dresses from the 17th and 18th century - lining up for the entry.
Meeting Giacomo again. He was everywhere....taking care of all guests....
(unbelievable this guy)
Entering the 1. Floor getting a warm welcome from Giulia (incredible hairs, outstanding dress, wow!!!) and "Miss Benzon" (astonishing beautiful looking woman) getting seated at a table near the balcony, with Grand Canal view.
The table for 8 persons was a good mixture of different nationalities having lot of fun all night long ....
(thanks to the "South African devil from the UK")
The entertainment and dinner were diverting. The artists moving from room to room impressing. One of them took my walking-stick and started juggling ......amazing ;-)
Visit Venice, come to the Sogno Veneziano Atelier, find your magic and enjoy!!!
Regards and "kiss the ring" ;-)

Chris and I have had the most amazing time thanks to Giulia and her crew at the Love Carnival in Venice last weekend. I always thought I would never do it but everyt step of the way it was so much fun! THANK YOU A 1000 TIMES for making this unique and the art, the craftsmanship behind all of this! We can't compliment it enough. You made us almost feel Italian and if having fun and love and experiencing new things is to you then I say it out loud...dont be grumpy (I'm French so this says something) enjoy life, art, fun and if you want to do it in Venice, go with these guys! To you Giuilia especially...with all my heart! AURORE

I would like to start by making the disclaimer that everyone in the store is really nice and friendly. This review is not on the people, but on the Labyrinth of sins event organized by this company, which we had a horrible experience with.
This event was supposed to be a masquerade party with great food, live entertainment and a night to remember. You could either buy a ticket for the whole thing or an after dinner ticket just for the party which started at 11pm. This was our experience:
The night started with cramming up over 200 people in a small place for the "welcome drink". It was a human massage experience with no breathing space and just plain uncomfortable.
Then the "fun" starred: the organizers moved everyone to their respective tables (a process which took about half an hour since there was only one staircase). Food started coming one hour later : A series of pretentious and horrible courses which not a single person in our table was able to finish, literally! The ravioli was cold and dull, the gnocchi was chewy and tasted like raw fish...There was a one hour waiting time between each course; at midnight we weren't even in dessert yet and the bad food and long waiting times was the only topic for discussion in our table.
There were over 200 guests and ONE bathroom (which did not lock properly so people had to take turns keeping watch to avoid someone opening the door)... I'm not even sure that one bathroom for that many people meets minimum health and safety standards...
The live entertainment promised meant there was a main stage in one of the rooms (for those paying a more expensive ticket). For us who "only" paid 250 euros the only "entertainment" was some wondering "artists" who made overacted and corny improvisations that lasted a minute or two and that took place every 45 minutes to an hour. We did not get access to the music, acrobats and other things going on in the main room.
Meanwhile people who paid just for the party were able to go in and dance since 11pm while people who paid full tickets were still waiting for the food which was disgusting...
All in all, we felt completely ripped off and ruined the end of our vacation in Venice. It's a good thing we did not rent costumes for this as it would have been a bigger waste of money...

I have been to Venice several times, but this year's experience topped it. The Carnival in Love Grand ball hosted by Giulia Russolo and her staff at Sogno Veneziano Atelier was an amazing experience with every detail from the decor, service, entertainment, food wine, and costumes. Kudos to this group of people. I will certainly attend another one of their events again.

We saw this dressup store last summer and i was so exited. The owner of the store told us we booked the wrong dates for comming to Venice for the famous mascerade festival. She told us she arrange a Ball on the 25/2-17 called the Labyrint of sins. So we quickly changed our dates and had a very good contact up until then for getting costumes. So now just back and so pleased with our Magical trip to Venice. If you go to the Festival I strongly advice you take the adventure a bit further and dress up your whole stay. But what we did not realize was that beeing dressed up we were beeing photographed walking the streets of venice. Well my now husband proposed in a gondola in July and I said. lets get married before the Ball and make it our honeymoon. We dont regret a thing.

Sometimes it is difficult to predict the experiences in life that will give a person the most important and vivid memories to last a lifetime, but that is how I felt after attending the Carnival in Love Grand Ball at Palazzo Ca 'Zanardi, organized by Giulia Russolo. I was referred to Sogno Veneziano Atelier by a friend who researched Ateliers for Carnevale and am very thankful to have found this Atelier and to have attended this fabulous party. I arrived in Venice early and was able to have a fitting at Sogno Veneziano prior to the grand ball. It was wonderful to meet Giulia and her family at the Atelier, the entire experience was very personalized and she helped me choose a beautiful dress that she designed and created, a true work of art. She also chose and provided everything to go with the dress, including gloves, jewelry, handbag, and a cape to stay warm on a cool Venetian evening. Her attention to detail was phenomenal. The headpiece that Igor created to go with the dress was also a beautiful work of art. I attended the party with friends and everyone looked amazing in their costumes.
Arriving at the party was magical, we arrived by water taxi and entering the party to see everyone dressed in the most amazing clothing that Giulia designed was absolutely breathtaking. The lighting was so romantic and there were whimsical entertainers dressed impeccably including women in dreamy white dresses dancing and stimulating the imagination. Bellini drinks were being served and after eating delicious appetizers and meeting very interesting people from all over the world, we went upstairs to a beautifully decorated room for dinner. The food was delicious and the entertainment and the dream continued. I couldn't have imagined the creative performance arts that were presented along with the various delicious dinner courses, it was such a feast for all the senses, a sensual dream really. It was wonderful also when Giulia personally recognized the local people attending the party who actually provided or made the delicious food and wine we were having.
I only wish that I had had a longer stay in Venice, I would have attended a cocktail party that Giulia had organized the prior weekend. I plan on returning next year with my dearest loved ones to share this incredible experience with them, truly one of the richest experiences and best memories of my life.

We stumbled across this unique shop whilst in my friend an I were in Venice. Whilst my 17 year old son would not get dressed up he enjoyed watching us lap up the attention of awe struck tourists.
What an one in a life time experiece, I felt like a princess all dressed up and ready to go the ball.
Well worth the 50 Euros this husband and wife team are true to their word and have the upmost respect for their customers. You donot feel rushed and really are just encouraged to enjoy the experience.
photos were sent to us within the hour via email so we could share them with loved ones at home, as well as having the flexibility to print them when we returned from our holiday.
DO NOT miss this unforgetable experience in Venice....completely outshines all otherr attractions ........even the Gondolas.

My daughter and I accidently found this place while lost in Venice. What a coup for us!! There was a TV in the window showing people in period costume and a sign that said 50Euro, we will take your picture.
We went in and explored the shop and spoke to the owner Julia.
She actually had some spare time, so she dressed up my daughter and myself in these lovely 12th century dresses and face masks. She made sure they fit perfectly, picked out the jewelry, shoes, gloves and fans.
He husband then walked us around Venice, around St. Marks Square, taking pictures (Over 150) pictures.
We parted crowds and hundreds of people posed with us to take pictures. We were like 'rock stars' with the paparazzi!!! We had so much fun!! It was unforgettable!!
By the time we got back to the shop a few hours later, she downloaded the whole batch onto a thumbdrive while we changed back to regular clothes!
This is definitely a lifetime experience. This shop is very busy during carnivale and does this in the summer with tourists.

Thank you for the good reviews, but you haven't make the workshop with us.
We have a big space that contains until 20 people, and the mask we give to decorate are only in paper machè and not in plastic.
Thank you in any case.
