The area
Neighbourhood: Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We came here as the church was used in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade… we were blown away by the church and the area! As it’s quite far from the main attractions, it was very quiet with plenty of lovely eateries and shops around. The church itself is beautiful with a wonderful Leonardo da Vinci exhibition inside. One of favourite spots in Venice.

This is a decent-looking church, which is not unique, other than the fact that it also houses some exhibits related to Leonardo Da Vinci's work.

If you expect to find out interesting news about Leonardo da Vinci, you better not go inside. You can read and test some devices. Construction is sloppy or better: absent. If you have 9 euros left for half an hour of activity, fine. Might be fun for younger children. Does not reach the expected level for adults and older children.

In this church is a small museum of interactive machines invented by Leonardo Da Vinci. There are many displays on mechanics, flight, and hydraulics. There's also a documentary on his life. It's an interesting aspect of Da Vinci other than his art not shown in museums. We stumbled on this exhibit while on way to another attraction. People of all ages who appreciate science will enjoy this exhibit. It would be best to check dates/time of the exhibit before heading over.

We were looking forward and were extremely disappointed. Poorly set out exhibitions, dimly lit, poorly explained - waste of time & money.

My wife and I walked around Venice today looking around for this place because it was in the film Indiana Jones, The Lasr Crusade. We found it and it looks exactly the same. It costs 8€ per person to go inside. We did not go inside. Rating it as a five because the exterior is really well maintained and we spoke to some staff that was really helpful. Posted a coupl pictures, including the film shot with Harrison Ford.

This is another pretty little Venetian church. Originally constructed in the 15th century, then extensively refurbished in the 18th. These days it holds an exhibition for Leonardo da Vinci.

With so much to see & do in Italy, so many ancient & modern temptations to lure your attention this way & that, things can get lost in the shuffle. And this being Venice, with its countless narrow & twisting streets, I could get lost just about anywhere. So, I felt it was important to prepare for my recent trip & what better way to prepare than watch an authoritative documentary on this ancient city like Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade?
Venice was used as a filming location for a number of scenes in the early portion of the film, after Indiana Jones learns his father has been kidnapped & travels with Marcus Brody to search for him. Doges Palace, the Bridge of Sighs & here, the Chiesa di San Barnaba, which serves as the exterior of the library where "X marks the spot," are among the locations used.
Currently, the interior of the church is being used to host an exhibition on Da Vinci. It's not exactly amazing, but worth a look if you have the time.

Being a huge Indiana Jones fan.......I had to take a moment to geek out when I popped out of an ally to see this in front of me. Venice is such an amazing city to visit and so much art and history everywhere. I had forgotten this was used as an external shot in that movie. Took me back to me teenage years.
