The area
Neighbourhood: Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nothing special, just another common church, one of dozens.Cramped between some other old buildings...if it wouldn't have the bell tower you almost won't remark it.

The Campo Santa Fosca is dominated by the church facade and a statue of Paolo Sarpi, an early reformer and proponent of the separation of church and state. The Romanian cultural centre is also located here and a little bit down the Strada Nuova is a pretty good Pizza/Kebab shop where you can get a slice of pizza for €2 or €2.50. Market traders set up stalls on the campo and along the street selling pretty much anything from exotic African drums to mops and underpants. Enjoy the hustle and bustle during the busy times or the early morning quiet before things get started!

Located alongside the Salizada Santa Fosca and fronting the eponymous Campo, this pink and white church, dates from the 10th century, the current church has a plaque above the portal “ Ad Maiorem dei Gloriam 1741” (To the greater glory 1741). The best views of the bell tower are from Fondament de Ca’Vendramin.

A small unassuming church that dates back to the 10th century. It is situated in the small Campo di Santa Fosca. The only outstanding feature of this square is the bronze statue of Paolo Sarpi who was a noted scholar, scientist, statesman and theologian. The statue is placed in this square probably because he was stabbed nearby by the pope's assassins.

As soon as I saw the front of this church I thought of Indiana Jones and the last Crusade. That is partly due to the shade of the stone -for those who haven't seen that film-. I did not get to go inside.
