This was probably the best church in the city for me. Many interesting features and multiple levels. Make sure you have a close look at the bronze doors. Two recommendations, first take a copy of the interior guide when offered at the ticket desk and 2 pay for a 4 churches pass or the Verona card. I would recommend the latter as it covers all major attractions in the city.

One of the wonders of Verona that you should never stop revisiting. This spacious temple houses the remains of San Zeno, patron saint of Verona. Its exterior, its doors with bronze panels, now protected, its frescoes, its wonderful main altarpiece, etc., etc. They are currently selling a combined ticket for the four great temples which includes San Zeno, the duomo, Santa Anastasia and San Fermo Maggiore

This is a beautiful church, yet one of the most unusual ones we’ve visited so far. There are 3 levels to this church all visible to the visitor right when one enters. There is the altar, the crypt, and the nave. The cloisters are also very different from most cloisters we’ve seen. The doors are adorned with embossed copper. This is a bit of a walk from old town, but it is definitely worth a visit. One can buy the combo ticket to visit all 4 major churches in Verona for €8.00 per person. All 4 churches are beautiful in their own way with some of the most unusual architecture yet. If you happen to visit this one first, ask for the combo ticket as you will want to see the others.

During my visit to Verona I had the opportunity to admire and visit this church in the central area of Verona. Excellent frescoes, memories of the Holy Father Pope John XXIII. The only flaw is that you have to pay to enter, as in Anglo-Saxon countries and I have decided to no longer give the 5 x 1000 to the Catholic Church. Grumpy staff (I don't know if it was a sacristan or a businessman) prohibited us from taking photos even though we were far from the main altar.

Very impressive church, built 967-1398 that houses the relics of the city's patron saint, San Zeno. One of northern Italy's most ornate churches. The exterior is Romanesque and above the portal is a beautiful rose window which represents the wheel of fortune. The slender belltower also contributes to the very symmetrical impression you get when you look at the facade. The interior is even more impressive starting with the beautiful cloister with its arches and courtyard and then a step inside this magnificent building where you can see a famous altarpiece by Andrea Mantegna, the crypt, where San Zeno rests in his silver mask, and the place where Romeo and Juliet are said to have married. The church's bronze doors are incredible works of art with their 48 panels and don't forget to look above you to admire the splendid roof in the nave. This is a must-see in Verona.

An extraordinarily beautiful Romanesque basilica set on a large piazza of the same name. It is an active church and at the time of our visit, we had to wait for the conclusion of a funeral. It does require paid admission but there were no crowds on a late afternoon and we enjoyed a long, leisurely self-tour of the entire venue. Beautiful art and architecture; a beautiful lower crypt, upper church and cloister area.
Tradition says San Zeno's crypt was the setting for Shakespeare's wedding between Romeo and Juliet and the adjacent cloister, Friar Lawrence's residence! Definitely worth your time.

This Basilica is a masterpiece. I remember visiting it as a child, and coming back after 20 years made me rediscover a true architectural jewel.
The church is an environment that is transformative in its simplicity and in its sophistication.
We walked here from the Castle, which was a short stroll, we then took a bus that took us near the cathedral, which was a good m love on a rainy day. The church is quite far from the other landmarks, so better to plan to reach it or come back by public transport.

Very beautiful, the ticket money willingly spent. Frescoes from the 1300s describe both the Giotto school. Three bays divided into three levels. But the wonder is the triptych, the altarpiece dedicated to San Zeno, by master Andrea Mantegna. The height up to the roof is impressive. The bronze door is a true masterpiece made up of various worked tiles. On the last level there is the crypt of San Zeno.

The Basilica of San Zeno is an absolutely unmissable jewel for anyone visiting Verona. Every detail of the church is a witness of its time and can tell stories of faith, culture and tradition, transmitting the legacy of past generations. The rose window, the portal, the frescoes with its centuries-old graffiti, the altarpiece of San Zeno by Mantegna, the crypt, and many other parts of the Basilica would in themselves be a reason for a visit.

It is part of the circuit of the 4 monumental churches of Verona and can be accessed by paying a small ticket of 4 euros or is included if you have the Verona card. It is slightly outside the historic center and is best to go and visit it first. This is probably one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Italy. It stands on an area where there was certainly an early Christian basilica and only in 805 did the expansion work begin. The earthquake that shocked Verona in 1117 did considerable damage to the complex which was restored and also extended in length. The façade dates back to the mid-1200s. Don't miss the wonderful panels attached to the door with scenes from the Old and New Testaments and the magnificent triptych by Andrea Mantegna on the altar.
