About
a museum-workshop: this new kind of museum features not only works of art but also the experts who describe them.a museum in movement: having installed the hardware (a system of dynamic lighting for the spaces, video projection systems, showcases, etc), each year the software will change, i.e. the contents, according to the state of progress in studies and research.a marvellous building: one of Palladio's finest palaces and the only one that he saw completed both as regards the architecture and decorations (causing the ruin of the patron, Montano Barbarano).an intellectual challenge: to take specialist knowledge out of the ivory tower and communicate it to a wider public in the museum and on the web.a far from impossible mission: recounting architecture to non-architects, not as a history of buildings but of the people who designed, built and communicated them; and showcasing architectural drawings, the tools that body forth ideas, alongside models, photographs and videos.the beginning of a journey: to explore Palladio's buildings in Vicenza (associated with the Palladio Museum thanks to the combined ticket "Vicenza città bellissima") and his villas in the Veneto countryside.a crossroads: a place where institutions and scholars from various parts of the world work together and present joint projects.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband is obsessed by Palladio. He was so thrilled to finally visit Vicenza and to actually see all the buildings he designed. This museum provides background about Palladio as well as about the buildings he designed. Entry is included in the Vicenza Musuem Card. There is an extra fee for special exhibits.

We were visiting Vicenza specifically to see Palladian villas, so this was a great addition to our trip. It is a small museum in one of Palladio's buildings, without "artifacts" from Palladio's life, but with good biographical details & terrific models of many of his buildings.

We felt so foolish on our visit to Vicenza today. We had no clue 99% of the town would be shut down on Monday. I am sure it is printed "out there", but my husband and I just never noticed it. Not a single museum was open and very, very few restaurants or bars. We walked 6 miles around town and looked at what we could find in a driving rain storm, then took the train back to Verona. Save yourselves the trouble and expense--stay away from Vicenza on Monday!!

This museum has not found it's strength. It seems to want to appeal to both novices and experts, but really does not satisfy either type of visitor. I have a fairly solid knowledge of Palladio, and have visited many of his villas and churches in several Italian locations, but I couldn't find a way to connect with what this museum had to see.
The first room appears to be aimed at younger people, with a noisy and irritating 'slot machine' video on one wall which attempts to give a funky snapshot of Palladio's work along with his imitators. While this is an eye-catching introduction, it doesn't lead to anything similar in the following rooms, so younger people will probably only be engaged with the display in this one room.
For those who can't abide such stuff, the other rooms contain visual information (some of which is repeated identically in several rooms -- ?) and models of several key buildings. In addition there are videos on the walls of eminent architecture experts giving their views on Palladio. Again, I would think these appealed to the esoteric few, but don't engage a moderately-informed enthusiast such as myself.
In the end my visit was much briefer than I had hoped, as the building models were probably the most engaging element in the museum, and even these were insufficiently documented (or 'interpreted' as the lingo goes).
Further I had hoped to see some of Palladio's own models (very famous) but I could not say if those on display were his or not, as there was no information on their origin.

I am sorry you didn't like our museum. I agree it now lacks a biographical section on Palladio that would appeal to novices, and we are indeed working on it.
The Slot Villa video is either much loved or totally disliked by our visitors, there is no middle road.
On the other hand I don't see what information is repeated identically in several rooms.
The scholars projected on the walls are there for two main reasons: give the public the opportunity to meet the experts, and explain the subject/s of each room focusing on the latest research outcomes.
Last but not least, the large models on display were built in the 1970s. I have never heard of any surviving original model by Palladio, except for a few cout-out paper templates for mouldings (2D): if to your knowledge there are some, please tell us in detail.

Lots of exhibits about Palladio and his buildings. Models of buildings that were new concepts at the time, and construction techniques. I recommend.

We visited this small museum highlighting Andrea Palladio's work in Vicenza and Venice. It was impressive and inspiring what this man engineered and designed so many years ago.

The Palladio Museum is housed in the Palazzo Barbarano, of Palladio's design. It has exhibits about Palladio's work as well as more general architectural topics. Although we are not architecture experts, we had a wonderful time.

Not a bad museum, but it lacks something. In fact the entire way Vicenza presents the history of Palladio lacks something. There are no Palladio walks (showing you the different buildings), the city tourist maps are inaccurate. The museum is in a Palladio Villa - which is exciting in itself - and some of the models are very impressive - but it could be so much more.

Go here first, then visit Palladio's buildings. The staff was very open to answering our queries. Do listen to the virtual commentaries, they are brilliant additions to the curation. Where else can you get the greatest academics on architecture to comment on one of the greatest architects of the western world? Then there are the models, which are perfectly presented.
One of the best curations of architecture I have ever seen.

Tucked inside of a 16C city palazzo - the Museum of the work of Palladio contains an exhibition of the breath of the work of Palladio - his villas and palazzi, public building and churches....construction techniques, geometries and lessons of his work, and often a special exhibition relating to the influence of Palladio over 450 years of Architecture. Every year the Museum offers a 1 week course on the work of Palladio - with a theme. Great bookshop in the lobby. If you happen to meet Guido Beltramini the Director, you will be charmed!

I have young children ages 2 years old, 4 years old and 5 years old? Would this museum be okay for them or is it better for older children?
