Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In the hart of old city, the cathedral built over the original Byzantine church. the Cathedral of San Sabino is the only church in the old city that can boast an imposing bell tower. Nice crypt in the crypt are preserved the relics of Saint Sabinus, the bishop of Canose, next to the crypt II Succorpo della Cattedrale di Bari. This museum beneath the cathedral reveals well-preserved remnants of an ancient basilica and various Roman ruins.

Entrance fee 3€, but on my visit on Sunday not collected, maybe due to the mass to start soon.

Sometimes tourists concentrate on the Basilica of San Nicola and ignore the Cathedral. That would be a mistake. This fine Romanesque cathedral features an austere exterior and a majestic interior. Do not forget to go down to the crypt which is beautifully decorated.

The splurge of baroque stylings has been reserved for the crypt in this otherwise unadorned and uncluttered church. This is resplendent with highly decorated arches and has two relinqueries. The principal one contains some mummified remains. Supposedly these are of Sant Colombia of Sens. A third century martyr of Spanish origin and venerated largely France. Somehow reunited with her head she reclines rather uncomfortably in a spangly dress and fetching beach sandals.

Less known than Basilica San Nicola, the San Sabino cathedral is a great example of Puglia Romanesque architecture. This church was built between the 12th and 13th century and its facade is in shining limestone decorated with little arches.
The interior with three naves and two-level arches looks solemn and harmonious decorated with sculptured elements in the limestone.

If you think the Basilica di San Nicola fulfills your curiosity for churches and Romanesque architecture think again.
The Cathedral is only a few minutes walk from St. Nicholas and you get there while enjoying the beautiful narrow streets of the old town and the scores of ladies handmaking pasta ( mainly orecchiette). The Cathedral architecture is even older and simpler than St. Nicholas but equally breathtaking.
Don't miss the recently (2009) open to the public archeological site beneath the crypt. It is called Succorpo and it's simply amazing as you walk on glass to be able to admire all the mosaics and findings. Entrance is not free but it is money well spent.

Nice church. Make sure to visit the crypt. There are bathrooms near the church souvenir shop if need be.

This Cathedral is filled with centuries of history. The standing building is beautiful - take time to walk the whole thing, then go down stairs. For just a couple of Euros you can go through the terrifically excavated crypt and see graves and floors from 1100! Bari is a neat town worth exploring and enjoying. This is the best of the sites.

Spendid, voluminous structure. Amazing is the only way that I can describe it. Immense, serene, unforgettable.
