Everything is beautiful, everything shines, but I wanted to go back to the island.
Jul 2019
Thomas Aquinas street is a contrast to the old town on the island. If there are peeling walls and dark narrow streets, then here is a wide promenade lit up in the evenings. There are lonely passers-by, here is a smart audience. In the old Borgo, there are a couple of grocery stores and pizzerias, and there are many restaurants and expensive shops. The dream of the reformers of the end of the XIX century has come true: the medieval Taranto is dying, the new Taranto is flourishing. But I liked the island better as a tourist, and not just because I stayed there.

Street walking at its best.

The summer evenings are glorious. There are always people around and there is a good choice of bars and cafes to sit in and people watch. Cone Vuoi is a take away eatery that specialises in crusty rolls with a delicious selection of fillings. Ice cream places are also numerous and each offer their unique gelato flavours.

Modern face of taranto
A nice long street contains many good shops restaurants and specially cafe's. Also some good piazzas and a great church. Must visit when in taranto.
