Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Few illegible lines at the entrance. Then the few rooms open to the public without any explanation, the tourists wandering around randomly, without route, looking for some information on their mobile phones. Guided tours are not possible. You look around without being able to appreciate what's there. The famous porcelain and silverware were not there. Disappointed.

Like the cathedral, you have to go looking for the Royal Palace as Cagliari does not make a fuss about it. Indeed, when you find it, it looks like a city building complete with Italian and EU flags from the outside but once you have climbed the staircase (entrance is free) there are a number of rooms decorated with period paintings, portraits with pride of place going to the painted ceiling in the main chamber.
Guide books or leaflets are not available so it is sometimes difficult to interpret the paintings and also particularly the images on the ceiling of the chamber.
Nevertheless, well worth visiting.

The Palazzo Regio is in the Castello District of Cagliari, up on the hill.
This palace was the home of the Viceroy under the Aragonese, the Spanish and Savoy. It is now the seat of the provincial government.
The entrance fee was only 2.50 euro, and it was worth this. You only get to see 8 rooms, but they are all different. There are some notes in English as well as Italian.
It doesn't take you very long to walk through, so it is worth including this visit if you are up in the Castello District - this palace is close to the Cathedral.

Although the visitor part consists of just a few rooms the palace of former viceroys of Sardinia is definitely workh visiting. The room of the parliament is magnificent. The other rooms contain some furniture, some good paintings and excellent Murano glass chandeliers. The visit is free and taking photos is allowed.

Our visit was made extra nice by the helpful security guard. Entry was just €1.50 and you only get to see part of one floor of the Palace. It takes about half an hour. Painting and furniture are to be seen. We were glad we went.

The Royal Palace is next to the Cathedral. It costs 3 Euros to go in and takes about 30 minutes to walk around at your leisure. There is also a Tourist Information Office inside the entrance. It is a series of interconnecting rooms, It's not like Buckingham Palace as its not large or very grand but some of the ceilings are beautifully painted and it's worth a visit if you are in Cagliari.

This is situated between Remy Bastion and the Citadel of Museums, next to the Cathedral of St. Maria. Entrance fee was 1.5 Euro per person within the entrance lobby, then continue up the marble staircase to view the rooms. The first room you enter has a display and information of life size models from the ancient Sardinian world. This is absolutely fascinating especially if you enjoy ancient history. According to the information; warriors from Sardinia were mentioned in the Illiad. The rest of the rooms have the usual furnishings of the 17/18th century plus portraits of the previous occupants. Personally, If you've seen one house of that period you've seen most of them. For the low cost of the entrance fee combined with the ancient models, I'd say it was worth a visit.

At the top of the old town, the Royal Palace is worth a visit. It's not huge and is very similar to many European palaces. The ceiling artworks are impressive.
Allow an hour maximum to work through the 4/5 rooms to see. There is No information about what you are actually looking at, and no guides available.
It's €1.50 to enter and closed Mondays.

The Royal Palace or Palazzo Viceregio is situated next to the Cathedral houses the Provincial Assembly Chamber. It does not really look like a public building, there is a guard in the entrance he welcomed me inside. Upstairs are several really interesting rooms including the highly decorated main chamber. I visited on a Monday when most museums are closed in Cagliari.

Only a few rooms of the Royal Palace are available for viewing, but it is a very beautiful, elegant, serene place with interesting antiques and decors, and lovely views out of the windows across Cagliari city, as it sits in the elevated Castello area. There is no cafe or gift shop, but there are toilets available.
