We were there on a morning a little cloudy because otherwise it is too hot. We rented 2 bikes for a couple of hours at a cost of 20€ and we turned inside on various routes. We saw various species of birds, flamingos and even an otter. Lo consiglio!

A visit that you absolutely must book if you are in Cagliari and its surroundings. The park can also be visited independently by walking or by renting bikes at the information point. If you want to see the protected area, however, you must join the guided tours, which cost €15 per person. Our guide was very knowledgeable and very nice, he allowed us to get to know the park in all its nuances. I recommend you go there around sunset, a sight that warms the heart.

My wife and I visited the naturalistic oasis of Molentargius Saline last week during a 3-day stay in Cagliari. It was a cold day, a little windy but sunny. We opted for the guided tour in an electric van. shortly after leaving, we were able to admire a show that left us amazed with wonder, in front of us some pink flamingos were eating calmly, moving around the pond regardless of us, then we admired a very fast kingfisher and a mallard that was stationed on the bank of the lagoon. Our visit was made even more interesting by the explanations of our guide "Michele" who told us with enthusiasm, competence and professionalism, the history of the salt pans, illustrating the functioning and the importance they had in the past, but also the role they play today and which with the necessary recovery and restoration they will be able to continue to have in the future. A visit to the molentargius salt oasis is absolutely recommended to all visitors to the beautiful city of Cagliari!

A fence keeps you well away from the water, so you are unlikely to see much bird-life closer than 200 metres away through the gaps in the undergrowth on the far side of the fence. The one viewing platform accessible from the bicycle path is useless because of the bushes which lie between it and the water and the distance to the water.
Your best chance of seeing flamingos is to cross the road from the visitor centre, even then, unless you are very lucky, a good set of binoculars is essential.
Bicycles are available for hire at 8 Euros for two hours and are a good idea if you wish to explore, especially in warm weather. (As you might expect from an area of salt flats, there's little shade).
We learned later that guided tours are available: perhaps those make it worthwhile.
Provision of some accessible viewing hides close to the water would be a good idea if their intention is to encourage visitors.

Visited this beautiful oasis this afternoon with my boyfriend.
The idea was to visit the park independently with a walk, but by asking for information at the info point we were told that a guided tour was taking place soon and we opted for that.
We couldn't have made a better choice!
We were captured by the history of the old salt pan told in detail by the expert guide who accompanied us along the route. To end in the flamingo oasis where we were able to admire the nesting of these beautiful animals and their puppies. Francesco is a very passionate person in what he does and passes it on to people. Route carried out on a car with other people and lasting approximately 2 hours. Absolutely worth trying!

Great place to see flamingoes and other birds and to enjoy nature in the city. Lots of different birds to be seen. Also an oasis of peace in the city. Not so crowded in the winter season, so you can also enjoy the quietness.

If you want to visit the park on foot, it is quite possible and free but without much interest. Few flamingos are visible compared to other places in southwestern Sardinia.
It is possible to rent bicycles for 10 € per two hours/person. This makes the tour more attractive and allows you to drive more kilometers. It is very nice to pedal in this pretty scenery by seeing the pink flamingos, sometimes well hidden behind the vegetation.

It waa a nice drive through the saltworks listening to the history of the area when it was fully operating. The flamingos were only visible from the distance which os understandable but I was expecting more info about the other birds living there and the flora.
It was a very hot day so I am conscious we could not standing in the sun
However as the tour was supposed to last 1hr30min and we came back after 1hr, more could have been explained in the office where a large board was showing the whole area divided in zones and the local fauna.
I do think the tour is a great idea but could be improved for a fully satisfactory and comprehensive experience.

A big disappointment. The "park" is huge and difficult to explore on foot, especially in the summer heat. There are various fenced-in private properties (Is Arenas) and - best of all - the lagoons are also fenced in and the access to the observation towers is blocked. The few flamingos cannot be seen because they are hidden behind reeds. You can obviously only get in there on a guided tour. The staff at the information center were anything but enthusiastic; apart from a map to photograph, we didn't find anything interesting. We saw more flamingos next to the road in the industrial area. We only went to the Perda Bianca area, though; perhaps it's better at the Bellarosa pools. It's best to go by bike in any case!

The Park is a wetland area covering an area of approximately 1600 hectares delimited by the urban expansion of the Municipalities of Cagliari, Quartu Sant'Elena, Selargius, Quartucciu and the Poetto seafront, it is an environmental jewel. This park offers a unique experience, immersed in wilderness and biodiversity, with a fascinating combination of natural and cultural habitats.
Visiting the Molentargius-Saline Natural Park is an extraordinary opportunity for nature and bird lovers, as it is home to a wide variety of species, including pink flamingos. The salt pans area is famous for being one of the main nesting sites of these elegant birds, offering visitors the opportunity to admire their beauty up close and observe their unique behaviors.
Unfortunately we went at the end of August with a lot of wind and cool weather, we didn't have the opportunity to see many flamingos and those few were far from the path. Immense to visit, it is useful to rent a bicycle.
