Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Castello Quarter is a wonderful area to visit, with its narrow alleyways and quaint architecture. The sights are magnificent and the streets are clean. The churches and basilicas are exquisite and breathtaking. Begin you trek and experience this beautiful town area!

Cagliari was built on seven hills and they are the seven districts of the city. Quartiere Castello is the most famous and important part of the four historical districts. It’s from the Roman Amphitheater to the Bastione Saint Remy. The two main streets are via La Marmora and via dei Genovesi. This district has narrow streets, old historic buildings. I think it’s a must-see site. Don’t miss the fantastic view from the high terraces!

Castello is historically the most important of the 4 historical districts of Cagliari. The residence of the Pisans, who founded the castle in the XIII century, the governor of Aragon and the Viceroy of Savoy from the beginning of the XVIII century were located here. Naturally, the cathedral was built in Castello. Now the university has been added to the prefecture. The Castello fully justifies its name, because much of what was built by the Pisans has been preserved. The towers of San Pancrazio (1305) and its twin brother the Elephant Tower (Torre dell'Elefante), built 2 years later, symbolize the original purpose of the Castello. In addition to the cathedral, there are 6 more churches on the territory of the Castello, 4 of them in the Aragonese Gothic style. We didn't have time and we limited ourselves to the Cathedral of Pisa in the Piazza Palazzo. If you have time, you can visit the Archaeological Museum and the National Art Gallery. There are no masterpieces of Italian painting there. The main exhibit is the Juan Matus "Annunciation" retablo. If you don't want to visit churches and museums, you can wander through the streets of Castello. The main streets of the quarter are Via La Marmora and via dei Genovesi. Genoese Street will take you to the traditional Jewish quarter or ghetto for Italian cities, which did not then bear the sinister significance that the Nazis gave it.

The Castello district is the oldest part of the city, on the hill, and the most interesting part of Cagliari.
Not to be missed if you visit Cagliari.
Narrow streets and old buildings. There is access up the steps at the Saint Remy bastion, or via a lift - there is one from behind Piazza Jenne, and another by the gardens along Viale Regina Elena.

Old town well maintained looks impressive. Streets are very narrow, full of shadow that even if the summer you can easily walk. Very narrow streets are also open for car traffic and here highly don’t recommended enter there large car due to the risk of stuck there or scratch your car. It’s worth to book 1-2 hours for walking throughout the city without plan as we did. Great experience.
