- Seeking True QualityEurope4,803 contributionsWhat a lovely garden, we were so sorry that a torrential rain shower started! We were pleased when we found this oldest urban park in Catania! But only as we started to admire the beautiful plants, the nice fountain and a clock with a flower dial - it started to rain heavily. For a couple of minutes, we hid under the trees, but we very soon realized that we had to find an indoor refuge!Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 April 2024
- Matthew PLondon, United Kingdom6,005 contributionsLovely fountainWe walked the garden from north to south, it is a beautiful space worth a wonder as it is cooler than on the road. The fountain is in the south east corner, and is very relaxing . Worth a visit to this area alone for the trees. There is a concert being set up so it was quite busy when we visited.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 July 2024

A break from watching churches, palazzi and baroque architecture can be had at the Giardino Bellini by Via Etnea. In fact it is not really a garden, but a park with mainly trees from Mediterranean and Subtropical areas, thus also quite a few palmtrees. The 'Giardino's' origin go back to the end of the 19th century.
In the park there is a little hill with a bandstand, the Collinetta del Salvatore, and also a 'Viale degli Uomini Illustri' with busts of several famous people connected to Catania. The park is named after Catania's most beloved son, the opera composer Vincenzo Bellini, of whom there is marble bust by the southern entrance.

The park is beautiful, especially the entrance part. However, there are not many possibilities to have a proper seat. Despite this fact, it is definitely worth visiting this place - and maybe one is fortunate enough to have some live music playing.

Open park area at the heart of Catania with really good areas for walking, exercising and enjoying a stroll with dogs. The most interesting part of the park is the plants that is changed everyday to show the date, feel like it's going beyond but in Italy, it's all an art. Really enjoyed the walks but didn't like the dog owners who didn't clean up after their dogs and ruin the experience for everyone.

Beautiful park, a bit higher up in the center of Catania, is a wonderful retreat with gardens, tall trees, a pond, statues and playground for children. I was a bit confused as locals call this park Villa Bellini. In the local dialect 'villa' means garden.
Formerly it was part of a private 18th century estate. Then only for the rich, now open for the general public.

This park was built in 19. century in honor of Bellini, the famous composer. We walked there and enjoyed quiet, relaxing time. Around there are green grass, nice plants, palm trees and many statues. It’s very popular for locals: they had picnik or walked with their kids and dogs.

It is a huge park in Catania where local people spend there free time: sport, walking with dogs, playing with the kids or just hanging out.
It is really huge with a big playground and a place for ball games.
You can go for a large walk there or just sit and watch the people and the dogs.

Nice to get away from the crowds and actually have a bit of greenery around you. I think this is the only peaceful place in a horrible city. Nice park but I think it could be much better with a few ice cream stalls or snack stalls.

Grazie e saluti

How far would this be to walk from the cruise ship terminal please, and is that an uphill walk?
Written 16 May 2016
Unless you are a swift walker it would be a long walk from the cruise ship terminal. I would take a local bus or a taxi. Yes, it is only a short walk from the Duomo. If you only have a short time in Catania then I would question whether you would need to waste time on the Garden. There are many more interesting things to see. However, if you are looking for a vantage point or just to get out of the hub bub of the town, then this would be a place to do so but you would need to climb all those steps.
