    Amazing view from the dome
Roman Baroque Catholic church and attached female convent. Damaged by the 1990 earthquake and repaired by 2012. The favourite time of the visit is around sunset to climb up to the base of the dome allows for views of the city and the looming Etna volcano, if not cloudy or dusty weather, for 5 Euro. Definitely worth of climb.

    Beautiful views from the top
Beautiful views on the whole city center and Etna from the top, definitely worth a visit! On the other side there is a sea view, which u usually don't see much from city center. Price was adults is 5 euros.

Worth the €5 to see the terrace view
Free to enter and €5 to see the view on the terrace and belvedere. I was hesitant to pay that to see the view but glad I did. On a clear and sunny day like I had it was beautiful! Fantastic scenery of Mt Etna and over the old town. There is a lift to get to the terrace if you wish and 70 more stairs after that. Otherwise it’s 170 stairs to go up. The church itself has a decent interior and there was a choir practicing when I was there.

Do the climb if you are able...
Entry to the roof climb is 5 euros but there are a lot of steps. There are intermediate levels where you can pause to catch your breath if necessary. The last set is very narrow - very much one at a time. The roof offer fabulous views over and into the city: quite fun trying to identify each of the church domes. Being so high the views over to Etna are very good. The climb provides some insights into the building's construction

    Amazing views from the dome.
Next to the cathedral this smaller church offers a spectacular walkway around the dome outside. Great views of piazza duomi and the bell tower of the cathedral. Only a few euros for a very sceenic experience of rooftop Catania.

    Interesting church
Church with attached convent just across the street from the cathedral that is worth a visit. It's free to enter but you pay if you want to go up onto the roof - we didn't but it is supposed to have excellent views. Designed by Vaccarini as is the duomo - it has an elongated octagonal shape with a large glass chandelier beneath the cupola. Also a venue for classical concerts which would be good if on when you visit.

A typical Italian church with a beautiful altar BUT for 5euros there is a spiral staircase up to the roof with wondrous views of the city overlooking Piazza del Duomo, the harbour and Mt etna in the distance. It is a must when in the Piazza. Closes at 12.30 most days. Warning - the climb up is steep, there is a secondary half-way point with a lovely bell to see and if you are not good on your pins do not try it. One way up and the same way down. Narrow with no real passing points. BUT WORTH THE EFFORT. Enjoy.

I liked the interiors of this beautiful baroque church much more than the Duomo: yellow marble altars with statues all by the same sculptor from the 1700s, crystal chandeliers and a two-tone mosaic floor with a beautiful weave. Paying a ticket of € 5 you climb the 170 steps to get to the dome (the climb is a bit claustrophobic and uncomfortable, so to evaluate well if you have problems walking, breathing or with narrow and dark spaces) and it is really worth it! The 360-degree view of Catania from the sea to Etna is spectacular, especially at sunset!
Don't miss it!

The Basilica of Saint Agatha is next to the Cathedral of Catania. This Baroque style church is worth visiting to see the beautiful frescoes and paintings. Entry into the church is free. The highlight is taking the narrow, winding stairs to the roof for the amazing views. The climb will cost you 5 euros per person. We went early in the morning and were the only ones on the roof.

This Baroque church used to be part of an abbey (badia) complex. Built after the 1693 earthquake it features a huge facade directly at streetlevel. For me the highlight of the church is the sculpture of Agatha. She looks ahead in an almost glorious manner, as if torture and death could not touch her. According to legend she came ta a tragic end. Both her breasts were cut off, but she retained virginity and faith. Catholic legends can be very bloody, fortunately the sculpture shows no signs of torment.

While you are in the Duomo Square take the short walk to the Badia Di Sant Agata. Not overly a lot to see inside but it's worth paying to go up to the roof! From there you are greeted with fantastic views over the city in all directions, and you can get your bearings for visiting other places as well. The times for up the Cupola 9 - 10.30am & 3.30 - 6pm

This church is located on a side street at the height of the cathedral. The interior is bright and friendly. The tower can be reached via stairs. You pay an entrance fee of €5. It's worth climbing the tower when the weather is good. The view over the city roofs is beautiful. If the sky is not covered with clouds, you can see Mount Etna.
