The MacS rise up inside the Little Abbay of the Monastery of S. Benedict, situated in Crociferi Street, site of Unesco and the World Heritage. This historical structure, attribuited for grace of shapes and armonic set of the architect Giovanni Battista Vaccarini is connected to the Great Abbey trough the famous Arch of S.Benedict. In harmony with the beautiful setting that it is placed and with wonderful baroque paintures of the church of S. Benedict, the MacS combines the architectural beauty of the eighteenth century to the modernity of contemporary art. The MacS is in fact the union line that starts from the distant Baroque painting tradition to arrive at contemporary and the aim is the promotion of the cultural heritage of Sicilian heritage, often creating cultural associations with equally prestigious historical and artistic containers , and the promotion of contemporary Italian and international art giving space to young talents and ancients artists . In the choice of this site is its very essence: the Macs wants to be followes of the aesthetic contain of our time. The reason why priviliged that figurative art its art collection is the conviction of evocative fonction. MacS' inspiration are classical criteria and parameters of beauty, executive competence, techinical ability, harmony of shaper, very ofthen emargineited by the Avant- Garde of the 1900s, melted with reality, the means, the needs and the expectation of what is contemporary.

This hidden jewel of Catania really surprised us. The juxtaposition of modern figurative art with ancient architecture is brilliantly refreshing. The receptionist eagerly explained to us the connection between Catania/Saint Agatha's story and the collection of art in the museum. The displayed paintings are very high quality - especially Davide Puma - and being figurative they are also interesting for... More

Lots of motherhood-themed pieces. The pieces that depict St Agneta were a welcome contrast to the many traditional devotional pieces you can see all over Catania. A small and well-thought out gallery, with a 5€ entry fee which was fine. The whole museum takes less than 45 minutes to visit in full, so don't plan your entire day around a... More

When I visited there was an excellent exhibition of international figurative artists. Approximately 25 works of art were on display, plus an excellent video giving an overview of the artists exhibited. This museum seems to specialize in contemporary figurative art, which I primarily collect. The artworks on exhibit were high quality and interesting, and introduced me to several new artists.... We saw a small but excellent exhibition of Italian contemporary figurative art. The children were made very welcome.

They should not have entrance fee. It's a gallery with a few paints, not a museum. There are two rooms, two sculpture and six pictures. That's all
