Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After booking the visit by phone, we are given an appointment for the next day at 9.Paid the 10 euro ticket, which includes a visit to the Villa and the park, we are informed that the Park is closed to the public and will not be visited even the second floor, closed for event. We raise some protests but the result is that we are left to ourselves (there are 4, of which 2 foreigners). There is a group with Guide and we wander through the rooms, however beautiful without any explanation or captions or cards to read. It does not seem to me that it is a correct way to welcome a visitor, nor a correct thing to charge a full ticket, if then the visit will be incomplete. On the phone we were told that the visit lasted an hour, in fact after a quarter of an hour we were already out. I'm very sorry, but this Foundation is not fair at all. But not at all.

SHAME . We had booked from Palermo for 12 p.m. Lots of difficulty finding the place. A bell was available to get additional information. Nobody answered. Two passers-by explained to us how to access the entrance gate. There were already 5 visitors waiting. We paid for our tickets. the "guide" only spoke Italian. After 15 minutes, 5 other people arrived and this pseudo guide started talking to them non-stop and no longer took care of the other visitors. 30 minutes later 2 young girls arrived (they, like the 5 others, did not did not pay). So we visited this palace alone, the pseudo guide continued to only see the 5 Italians. It's a tourist trap. No respect for them. A pseudo guide abandoning the visitors, who can walk around alone everywhere... No visit to the garden. And to think that it is a foundation!!!!! The person who managed this visit deserves to be kicked out for the lightness towards the visitors but also for the m 'foutisme' towards the premises. TO AVOID / NO REFUND /

Website says they're open on mornings only (Mon-Sat). Went on Monday morning and couldn't get in, as apparently you have to pre-book a tour 24 hours in advance, which isn't mentioned anywhere online. And couldn't go in the gardens either. All in all a shame.

Like many places in and around Palermo Villa Malfitano is sadly neglected. If you are passing do enter and walk around as there is no charge. The day we visited the villa was closed, and the grounds were in need for regular maintenance. What was once a grand villa with lovely gardens has been allowed to fall into disrepair.

Thankfully Palermo has just in time realised this is another jem! It is run by a trust endowed by the original family, the Whittakers, but it is far from rolling in cash to keep it up.

Do not expect an NT standard of decoration, repair, guidance or cleanliness! But, it is worth going to see and hopefully the more people who do go the better the house can be looked after.

The story of the Whittakers is interesting - research it before you go - nothing at the house! The gardens are just maintained but are protected from ingression by gates and a high wall!

We walked from our accom. on Via Dante but I am sure there is a bus going up this main thoroughfare if the walk daunts you.

We were staying in the area of Palermo and I saw this villa on the map. When I looked it up I was very surprised that the man behind it was originally a Yorkshireman- as we now live in Yorkshire it seemed rude not to visit!

We only went to the gardens of the house but still thought it was very impressive and it felt like you were a long way away from the busy streets of the central city.

The Garden around the villa is lovely. The villa itself is a bit expensive (6 €). It is a collection of art pieces from around the world I think. No explanation was given. you need to ring the bell in order to get in.

Villa Malfitano is a charming mansion hidden in a park in the middle of Palermo. It has beautiful interiors and the staff was very nice!
