    Tour worth the effort.
This tour is worth it to have the opportunity to see inside the theater. It's beautiful. The tour was brief, but worth the effort. Our tour guide wasn't inspired, but gave us the information needed to understand the history of the theater. While visiting the royal box and the floor of the theater we were able to see rehearsals of an upcoming production! It would be such a shame to miss the beauty of the interior of such a building.

    Impressive but not well maintained
We visited with a tour guide. The building is very impressive, the tour is pretty short (about 30 minutes), the tour guide was very nice. There are small art exhibitions in a main room (with the ceiling that reminds Florence). On the other hand, the building is not maintained well enough, as spots of water are seen in the halls - probably because of the humidity, and, well, bad maintenance.

Thank you Luciana for a fabulous tour of Teatro Massimo!
Luciana did an excellent job touring our group around the Teatro Massimo. She spoke fluently in Italian, French and English. Her knowledge of the history of the Teatro is impressive. It made the opera we attended that night even more enjoyable.

    Must See Theater In Palermo!
The Teatro Massimo is very impressive! It's similar to La Scala in Milan, which I have also visited. The tour guide was a very friendly young lady. I can't remember her name, but she gave the tour in both English and Italian and I think she did a great job! She even told us that there is a legend of the ghost of a nun who haunts the building and tries to trip visitors on the steps, but fortunately that didn't happen to me or anyone else who was on the tour with me! Definitely a must see when you go to Palermo!

    Stunning :)
I participated in a tour of the theater. Teatro Massimo is very beautiful and a must see if visiting Palermo. During our tour, we were able to watch an orchestra practice... a moment I will always remember. I hope to return in the future for a live show :)

    Fun Tour!
We had such a fun tour with our Guide who spoke English very well and then switched to French for a young French couple. So many fun facts about the Opera House that were both interesting and fun to know. Highly recommend !

    Interesting, enchanting, imposing and impressive...
For Euro12 each, the guided tour of Teatro Massimo was well worth the money. The building in and of itself was imposing and impressive, but to fully appreciate the significance of the opera house, one must also explore its interior. Since there were no live performances during our time in Palermo, our best available option was the guided tour in English. Yes, some additional preventive maintenance was needed and no doubt will be done as schedules and funds allow...probably similar to our own homes. Overall, the viewing of Teatro Massimo was both interesting and enchanting, so now we only lack attending a live performance. Throughout our tour, I tended to trail the group a bit. The photo ops were cleaner and mostly devoid of other people.

My husband purchased tickets to an event for May 2024. We can't attend and the theatre won't issue a refund or allow us to resell the tickets. Be careful before you book

This old building is very nice. It’s used for the theater and the architecture is very nice. I enjoyed looking at if from several sides.

The opera house is well worth a visit. Of course it’s very old and although not the most in sitting versus the other opera houses it’s massive and renowned for its acoustics which on the tours you get to test.

Ok, it might be the third largest theater in Europe, but the tour is not worth it. It’s hot, not particularly clean, covered with a solid layer of dust, requires a lot of stairs climbing (lifts are kept locked up) and the lights in the actual seating areas are kept very low, perhaps to hide fading velvet on the seats? The backstage walk is an absolute mess and the whole experience is quite poor. I suggest you stick to that one scene in Godfather III where Al Pacino’s daughter is shot on the stairs of this theater, it’s enough to remember it.
