One of the reasons I came to Siracusa was to see this painting. It was well worth the visit. Although poorly restored, it still conveys the passion of the artist's work. The two grave diggers frame the dead body of Santa Lucia, while the mourners...More

I like Caravaggio's work - and this painting is good (but not his best by a long way) - It is said it was done in a hurry, and you can see that. A nice church - and free entry to see the church and...More

Yes a church, but used now as a showcase for the glorious Carravaggio that is front and center above the altar. Currently exhibiting another artist whose work fills the space rather than pews; not sure how long that exhibition is, but the Carravaggio is the...More

As a Swede (where we, even though lutheran since 1590's, have a huge St Lucia festival) it was special to visit this chiesa. Though every church our place with a Caravaggio is worth visiting. It was beautiful.

The key attraction is the Caravaggio behind the Altar. However the altar rail barrier does not permit close enough viewing to truly appreciate the artist's work. Ceiling paintings and artefacts relating to St Sebastian. Worth a step into the cool and calm from the busy...More

The Church of Santa Lucia is across the piazza from the Duomo and, as such, over shadowed (both physically and esthetically) and often overlooked. Inside this small church is much like most other baroque churches , of which there are many in this region, ano...More

I don't think so. The church is basically being used as a museum. You can go to mass right next door at the Cathedral.

I was just in Syracuse, and this church is open from 11-4, Tuesday - Sunday. I know this because I got there at 4 on Sunday ... just as they were closing the doors!
