It's the biggest and widest fortress of ancient times. It's a pity that Sicilian authorithies don't give a dam to promote their treasures! Was often closed when we came to visit but , once there, we esclated the fence beside the gate! Take the time...More

We were a group of 8 who, having consulted the website for opening hours, travelled from Acireale N of Catania to view it - it was closed. A neighbour informed us that it had closed for the winter!!

The site was closed with no indication of when it would reopen. Check before going. The redeeming feature is that the view from this spot will never close. You can follow a gravel road around the east side of the site to peek over the...More

This site has not been restored as some but still is very captivating. The ruins have been overrun by amazing fields of flowers and the subterranean tunnels are very interesting. It has an incredible feel about it.Certainly worth the visit for an hour or so.

We had a hire car and a sat-nav, so we didn't find the site hard to find, and the man in the ticket office gave us an English map with some basic details of the castle. With the map, the site was fairly easy to...More

The Eurialo castle just outside Siracuse is, as the guide says, "the most monumental building in the history of Greek military history". But you would be hard pressed to know that from the way it is marketed. It is not easy to find by car,...More

Its website says it is open 9 to 5 tutti i giorni but it was closed on the Sunday I visited. Fortunately I was able to catch the same bus back to Siracusa.

This is an ancient site superbly placed above Siracusa. It seems to be not often visited and you can really climb around on things. The vistas are fantastic and the story is, too. Well worth a visit if you have a car to get there,...More
