Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very odd subway to get to the beach from the bottom of the cable car station
The beach is OK but the beach clubs are pretty average and the beds packed together
It's stoney and you can go to the far end of you just want to pop a towel down rather than rent a bed
Not a place for the whole day for us go a little further for the lovely Spisone beach

The ride down from Taormina affords a spectacular view albeit thru grimy windows. The beach is accessed by a tunnel under the rail line and there are a cluster of restaurants with great views our favorite is lido Di Pigna .beach lounges are for rent and there is a safe swimming area

Was there briefly for the day and the water was beautiful, a boat tour would probably be a good choice to explore the coastline and coves nearby. I was surprised to see so many people laying on the "beach" which is not soft and sandy but rather all rocks. Smooth rocks in a variety of sizes but would be very uncomfortable to lay on. A lot of sun beds with umbrellas for rent. It was very busy with most beds taken, if you're looking for sand and something quieter this isn't the place.

You can reach this beach by cablecar 6 euro each return journey. Most of the beach is private with sun beds at cost. The public bit is small with limited access to sea. Lots of tour boats going in and out and operators keep telling you to get out of their way. Overall felt dirty and not relaxed. Stony beach which is hard to walk on and many steps to get back to cable car.. there are much nicer beaches nearby.

My wife and I visited during the first week of June. We found restaurant and beach staff very helpful and pleasant (after a cable car ride and around 100 steps). Unfortunately the same could not be said of the Asian women offering massages on the beach. They came straight up to us and I naively said yes! After a 30 minute session they then told us that the cost for the two of us would be 160 Euros! We are used to paying around 15 - 20 Euros (or less in some places). When I refused to pay them more than 20 Euros each they became extremely aggresive, one even grabbed and squeezed my arm so hard that she bruised me! We then walked away. Two days later they came up to us again demanding the rest of the money they insisted we owed them. I had had enough of them by then and told them (shouted actually!) where to go. I believe the police or beach staff should do more to prevent this sort of thing occurring. It ruined our day. Avoid them or even avoid the beach until these people are removed.

Truly awful. A traffic-choked, filthy dirty, terrible mess with a horrible, stony little beach, packed edge-to-edge with expensive sunloungers. Save yourself the cable car fare and just don't go. Really.

We stayed in Taormina for a week and went to Mazzaro for beach time. You can easily reach it from the center by taking the cable car - which by the way is overpriced at 3 euros per person, but anyway... We paid the 7.5 euros per person for the beach chairs at Lido Sporting Mazzaro, again overpriced but that's life. The place is quite scenic, not overcrowded (early September 2013) and the beach is quite clean. Please bear in mind though that the beach is quite rocky, with no sand at all, so ideally you'd buy some of those rubber shoes before you get here. The water also becomes quite deep only 2-3 meters from the shore, so it's not the best beach for children. In fact all the beaches in the area were sort of similar in that way.

However, what really bothered us were those idiotic boats offering excursions around the area. The water was very clean in the morning, but by 1:30 pm it would already be filthy with plastics and other rubbish that the boats would leave behind them. Their motors would also stir up any dirt on the sea bed. It was so frustrating!! What they do is they come to shore all over the place and start blowing their horns or shouting, hoping to attract customers - the noise pollution isn't too great either.

We complained to some of the people there like the life guard, but he just shrugged his shoulders. I cannot understand for the life of me why there isn't a special section where the boats can come in. Instead they park or disturb the waters wherever they please! So if you do plan to go to Mazzaro, PLEASE don't ever take one of those boats! These obnoxious people need to stop!

We went to Isola Bella which was a lovely beach but our B&B host recommended this beach as it usually isn't so crowded. this was the case and it was great and actually had sand and pebbles instead of just large pebbles and rocks. You can also hire a paddle boat or board which I did and paddled around to the blue cave myself and swam inside which was great. There also some cute cafes and restaurants down by the water.

After reading reviews of the beaches surrounding Taormina, I became disenchanted.
So, I gave Letojanni a shot and I did not like it. There are rocks and pebbles everywhere and the depth of the water drops suddenly.
Problem Solved : Today I went to Giardini-Naxos and it is gorgeous! This is a town on the beach about a 20 minute bus ride from Taormina (same amount of time as Letojanni). There are several places to rent chairs (3 Euros) and umbrellas (3 Euros), showers and bathrooms included or you can go to the free beach. The sand is perfect ; the water is clear, clean and calm. There are restaurants and bars right there. Bus stops are steps away. So, now you know where to go to the beach when in Taormina.

This beach is on the small side. It tends to attact young teens for some reason. Isla Bella was slightly better.
