Our One-Day Cooking Class is informal, fun and hands-on. The class taught in English and designed around a typical Tuscan meal with fresh local in season ingredients. You will start the full day course by meeting the instructor, Shirley Ofria at a café in the historic center of Cortona. Over a typical Tuscan breakfast of cappuccino and pastry, you will choose from our recipe booklet what you want to prepare. After breakfast and menu planning, you will go to the various markets to collect all the necessary ingredients. When you finish with the shopping, it’s off to our home in San Egidio, just ten minutes above the wall surrounding historic Cortona. When you arrive at the house, the aprons go on and the work begins. You will start by making appetizers that will later serve as a light lunch break. After lunch, it’s back to work to start on the first course, second course, side dishes and of course desert. When everything is ready you will sit down to enjoy and critique your creations. The meal can be served inside or out, weather permitting. The course includes; menu planning, shopping, breakfast, lunch, dinner (all food and wine) and the recipe booklet. Dietary restrictions are welcome and if there is something specific you want to do, please contact us several day in advance of your class day.

I had the privilege of taking a 4 hour cooking class with Simonetta. This was the highlight of my trip. She was engaging and taught me more authentic ways to make Italian dishes. I will visit again the next time I am in Tuscany to learn more of her culinary secrets!

Our one day cooking with Shirley was worth our trip to Tuscany. We loved everything about it from shopping in the morning and experiencing Cortona (a town we wished we had stayed in), to our conversations with Shirley, to our newly gained skills in the kitchen. Every meal that we cooked under Shirley's guidance was absolutely delicious and we can't... More

My wife and I took Shirley's "Class" over a year ago (March, 2015), and it still keeps coming up in our conversations with friends as a highlight of our time in Tuscany. Would love to do it again! Shirley and Chuck are very amiable hosts. The lessons are "hands on" and they move along quickly. We made delicious snacks to... More

One of the highlights of my Italy vacation was to enrol in a culinary class. The one-day class offered by Shirly suited my specification and budget: class was neither too long nor expensive. And we did the Tiramisu I've been wanting to do and it was perfect! I enjoyed the talks, tips and the spectacular Il Refugio views while working... More

We wanted to experience the cooking class in full. And this we did. Shirley meet us at a local cafe, we discussed our menu, and shopping we went. it was Saturday, market day on Cortona, aside from the local farms bringing their products, we also visit the local butchers and bakers. Then up to il Refugio to cook. Her class... More

What an extraordinary experience! As someone who loves to cook and who was raised dining at the table of an Italian mother and Italian nonna, this was a truly unforgettable and educational experience. Thank you, Shirley, for inviting us into your wonderful home, for your excellent cooking tips, for your sense of humour, and for making an Italian boy re-discover... More

We had the best time. There were 6 of us and all would go back again. Shirley was so informative and fun. Her house was just beautiful a true Tuscany experience. I will take all the recipes back with me for my friends to enjoy. I would not hesitate to book again.

We are foodies and love our wine, too. We found this one-day school while surfing the 'Net and jumped on it. Husband, wife and adult daughter enjoying a cruise and then 10 more days in Italy driving. Cortona is a wonderful place to visit and Shirley's class remains the highlight of our three-week European vacation. Met for breakfast in a... More

We booked our one-day cooking class with Chuck and Shirley a few months back, knowing that we'd be in Cortona for a week. We had no idea what to expect, other than to show up at the cafe, that we'd be taken to local shops to buy the ingredients, that there would be a light lunch, and a full, multi-course... More

We were a group of 5, joined by another couple, and we all had a truly superb day with Shirley. She has a wonderful manner and excellent knowledge of food. It was such a treat to try out some real Italian home-cooking. Nothing was too much trouble and we made so much food that it fed us for the next... More
