Good choice

The food was dissent. The location in piazza di republica is excellent. The prices were rather high.

I've read a few reviews that criticize Gilli for service and prices...anyone traveling to a major tourist city and settling in the primo corner locale on a main square should expect to pay €5-7 for a cappuccino, but if you want sip your fresh squeezed juice, people watch, listen to buskers, and surf the good wifi...this is a great stop.... Wish I had looked up this place first, but in the pouring rain, this restaurant looked warm and inviting. We decided to have a drink and then a late lunch. We were given a menu that had only sandwiches, while clearly, the Italians were given full, large menus. I asked the waiter for the menu and he picked mine up... More

Visited here twice..It isn't cheap but it is a bit fancy and in the main square so perfect for people watching. Each time we were inside so had a lovely warm spot...Ordered coffee (which comes with cold water and a little Gilli mint!) And a bigne nocciola (hazelnut eclair) which was dense and delicious. Also tried a couple of cocktails... More

Their only asset is a good position in the center of the Florence! Without that, I believe they would close this place a long time ago! We wanted to warm up and have some drinks and coffee on New Year's evening. We found this restaurant while wandering around asked waiters politely (in Italian and English) if they have free tables... This place is sinfully delightful. I cannot say enough good things about it. Enter and order a dessert at the counter (they will weight it and they you go and pay for the pastry or cookie). I unfortunately, thought their Ricciarelli Italian cookies were incredible. I am going to buy more before I leave! Everything is fresh is this store... More

The place is very modern looking, which should been our first clue. The service was terrible and our server looked pained that she had to wait on us. The food was terrible. Tasted terrible and not well prepared. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

What a gorgeous, old-fashioned chocolate and pastry cafe. It's pricy- 4 tiny chocolates for 10 euros- but so delicious.

Went there today for an afternoon snack with my husband on the outdoor seating and were told to pick any seat. So we did and when the waiter came and found out we were only having snacks and coffee (it was around 2 pm and we already had lunch) he had us move to a table without any table setting.... More

We had a small treat and cappuccino each morning before heading out. Our kids (4&6) loved picking things from the counter. We would pull up the single bob stroller so they could stand at the small counter and eat with us. The inside is beautiful and offers a sit down option. You have to pay first before getting the food... More

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
