This piazza is located in the heart of the historic center of Florence. It is one of the most visited places in Europe; in this Piazza we can find the Florence Cathedral with the Cupola del Brunelleschi, the Giotto's Campanile, the Florence Baptistery, the Loggia del Bigallo, the Opera del Duomo Museum, and the Palazzo dei Canonici. The west zone... More

Nice play to walk around and take the sights in, but always crowded with tourists. Don't really feel like you are able to experience the true essence of the place. Had no interest in going inside the Duomo after we saw the long, snaking lines.

The Duomo inside is just amazing but the climb to the top of the dome is something you just have to do. It is quite a climb so make sure you are ready for the exercise!!

I guess Piazza del Duomo is one of the best things you can see in the world. It's decorated perfectly from outside. Each door has its own story with sculptures.

Beautiful part of Florence, full of atmosphere. A must see when in Florence. Plenty to do, see & places to eat around the Piazza including Gluten free choices in the Mister pizza.

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
