Fabulous place to visit with its unique architecture and historical relevance. The place you see on many postcards and featured many times on tv, it is really worth taking in the awe and wonder for yourself. Included are famous sculptures such as David by Michaelangelo (which is actually a copy - the original is based at the Accademia). Nevertheless, they are amazing to see. Well worth a visit.

I mean it's another square aka a "piazza", this time it's the square of the lady! And what a beautiful place it is, with stunning buildings, a buzzing atmosphere and a LOT of people walking and cycling in every possible direction. You are also close to many of the wonderful bars and eateries of Florence here, including the fabulous sandwich bars serving "schiacciata" - try this, trust me, you will never want to just have boring, plain bread again! Again, as a useful tip, if you want to avoid crowds, I would recommend either coming outside of peak season (Jun-Sept) or first thing early in the morning when you can still enjoy the architecture and vibe of this area.

This is one of the most popular public squares for sightseeing in the historic city centre of Florence. In addition to major attractions like the world famous Uffizi Museum and Palazzo Vecchio, you will find quite a few cafes with alfresco dining and souvenir shops. Another interesting aspect of Piazza della Signoria are the many monuments scattered around the square including the Neptune Fountain, Cosimo I equestrian statue, row of sculptures in front of Palazzo Vecchio including the much recognisable replica statue of Michealangelo's David as well as the masterpieces within Loggia dei Lanza such as Giambologna's Ratto della Sabina. It is easy to spend half an hour monument viewing at Piazza della Signoria as well as several more hours within Uffizi or Palazzo Vecchio museums. Just be aware of the crowds that gather here during the daytime hours. For more relaxed visits, try passing by first thing in the morning or later in the evening when the throngs of tourists have left the square.

This is considered to be one of the most beautiful squares, not only in Italy, but to many, in the world. This area dates back to the 14th century. Not only used for politics at the time, but also for locals to gather. Besides restaurants and shopping, many famous sculptures and statues can be seen here. Quite a few are visible for free from outside, but others are tucked away in museums. The statue of David by Michelangelo, among others, can be seen at the nearby Galleria dell’ Accademia. Many locals and tourists gather here to take in the sights, or just find a seat and people watch. This is definitely a must see for anyone visiting Florence.

Our airbnb was close walking distance to here and so we passed by this everyday. Always lots of people and a lively place. At night there are nice lights around. Lots of places to eat around but overpriced because of the location.

Piazza della Signoria is a very beautiful square which is beneath the Palazzo Vecchio. It contains amongst many statues located in the Loggia dei Lanzi, the Fountain of Neptune. The fountain is indeed as expected a majestic work of art, beautiful both in the morning and at night with artificial lightning upon it. Piazza della Signoria is a must visit when in Florence as it is not as busy as the Piazza Del Duomo.

Beautiful place to visit and learn history. Great places to eat and gather with friends and good for pre teens. It can be a bit crowded with lots of tour groups. It was pretty hot as well. Gelato is really good as is the pizza. Go to the rooftop bar for great views of the city!

It is the place in Florence where everything comes together, belongs together and fits together. With all the splendor, it is difficult to know where to start. The Neptune fountain is beautiful with its mythical figures and the fountains. Behind the fountain there is a refill station with drinking water, even mineral water can be tapped here. The Palazzo Vecchio towers over everything and of course Michelangelo's David. The head of David looks relatively large, but this is intentional, because the viewer looks up from below and the proportions are correct. By the way, you should focus your attention on the hand of the sculpture, even if you might be tempted to look somewhere else.

We more or less stumbled on this beautiful square on our private, family discovery tour of Florence. We spent most of the day just following our noses around - no guide books, tour operators or anything fancy. Just Google maps and my good nose for directioning :-) But I digress. The Piazza della Signoria is a wonderful place featuring a host of world class marble statues, including a convenient replica of Michelangelo's David and some rather gruesome images of Perseus and Hercules inflicting some mythical savagery. There is also a statue depicting the Rape of the Sabine Women by Giambologna. Hmm... Neptune is also here in a rather aptly constructed fountain to make him feel at home. The surrounding architecture is stunning as well. There are also plenty of bars, gelaterias and restaurants here making it a really wonderful place to spend quality time. Oh, and all the artwork is free of charge to marvel at. It's a popular place, certainly on the hot August day when we were there. I found that the best way to navigate through all the people was to just keep your head down and walk slowly but with purpose. No entrance fees or long queues here, by the way!

Like many major attractions in Florence it is best to visit vey early in the morning or late at night to avoid huge crowds, and Piazza della Signora was no exception. The piazza is surrounded by shops and restaurants with an impressive fountain, sculpture and the Museo di Palazzo Vecchio. It's a great place to unwind when it's quiet as there's so much to marvel at, not so when it heaving with tourists.
