In the heart of medieval Florence, in one of the most evocative building you can discover Dante's house museum. The original building, deteriorated during centuries, was built again in the first decade of the XXth century, where the original Alighieri's house was and where Dante was born in 1265. The museum is divided into three floor, each one dedicated to Dante's life and to the history of Florence of the medieval age. In the first floor, the visitor can learn about the medieval architecture and economy of the city but also, about the life of the poet during his youth. In the second floor, the protagonist is the exile of Dante while In the third floor, the Divine Comedy is the "mistress" of the spaces. Since 2008 the museum has grown, hosting new important exhibition spaces. For example, the ones about the medieval goldsmith's of Florence and the art of "Medici and Speziali". In 2010, the museum acquired important original artifacts from the medieval age.

We hit this because my daughter loves Dante's writing and wanted to see his house. The focus is not really that much on Dante himself but on the time period in the city. It's definitely not "showy" - there are various artifacts and a lot...More

This museum is nothing like what you’d expect. It’s nothing like a home, or a depiction of how Dante lived as you’d expect. Instead it seems to be a collection of random artifacts from the city. There is some history of the city itself, but...More

I want to come back here when my feet aren't so tired - there's a whole course on Florentine history here. You really have to take your time and go in prepared to absorb a lot of information on the world that produced Dante, and...More

Don't waste your time (and money) visiting this museum. Three floors with some information on Florence's history, but nothing resembling a home (as it is expected). It's not worth it.More

Personally, I have an affinity with Dante. There were several historical points in his life highlighted, that were very informative. But it is a bit dense for a casual visitor. If you have a passing or no familiarity with Dante, it will seem more like...More

Was really interested in seeing this place when I booked my trip to Italy. Was let down after visiting Casa di Dante. The structure itself was cool, but the content of the museum was not great. If you have an hour to kill, and are...More

I am giving one point for the terrible service, not for the edifice. Museo Casa di Dante is a typical Italian medieval house with a stunning architecture. Though, the madam from the ticket office was kind of rude with us (a group of 64 people)....More

It's not the most interesting museum in Florence by any stretch of the imagination, but it's still worth a quick visit if you're passing by.

This is a smallish museum, the home of Dante, and (in shoulder season at least) was not particularly busy - unlike almost everything else in Florence. The most intersting aspect of this museum is (in my mind) that it provides a very good explanation of...More
