Neighbourhood: Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.

This is a short pedestrian street that connects Piazza Duomo (north) with Piazza Signoria (south) that is very crowded during the day with tourists making their way between the two popular and crowded public squares. You will find lots of retail shops and places to grab a coffee, panini or gelato throughout. Museo di Orsanmichele is located here as are a handful of hotels. Via dei Calzaiuoli has an expected commercial feel to it which is expected given the amount of daily foot traffic that takes place here.

It is an elegant street in the heart of florence. The great international brands shops have ruined the atmosphere of this street. Same for the food shops. I have been here 30+ years ago and I did not find anymore that genuine atmosphere.

This is main street for expensive fashion stores which starts at the Arno and goes to center of old town. Many of stores are big names in Fashion and window prices reflect those names. If you like that stuff, good place to go and I imagine you can negotiate. If you just want to look and see nice stuff great window shopping.

My wife and I were walking down Via Calzaiuoli just south of the Duomo and decided to get a gelato at the Gelateria across from Victoria Secret. I admit I just glanced at the menu on the wall and ordered what I thought was a 2 euro cone. Imagine my surprise when I was charged 10 euro each. I thought it was just my own fault for not being careful but then read a warning in Rick Steve’s guidebook about the 10 euro “tourist special” ripoff.
If you want Gelato there is a great place on Via De Neri near Via D Benci where we got 2 flavors in a cone for 2.50 euros - and much better Gelato!!!

Beware of price scam in gelateria yogurteria homemade (something like that).. They are cheating on price and they don't give correct check.. They are charging small cup as large.. On our check they just wrote total amount, without quantity or things we took.. When you ask them to give you the right check, they walk away from you in back room behind cashpoint.. Very rude staff, specially the young one..(hope he doesn't have any connection with ownership).. Hospitality there is on low level, zero.. They shouldn't work there not even like cleaners.. Because of them people think that everyone will cheat them.. Very bad.. Big zero for them👎

Great street to wander along and perfect location right off of the Duomo. Beware of gelato prices which fluctuate greatly (in taste also) all over the tourist areas. Closer to the church, the higher the prices. The second one in is called Gelateria Yogurtria Homemade (something like that). They deliberately scam you on prices and their trip advisor page and Google page is full of terrible reviews. Unfortunately, because of the location, they can do this all day because it is a convenient location and nobody is looking at Google on this street. Just a few more shops further is a gelato shop with chocolate pouring down the wall. Go there or around the next corner... There are so many better tasting gelato options. Don't take a bite until you pay. The other shops on this road should close those guys down. They are giving them a bad reputation. Other than that, it is a good street to wander along.

Via dei Calzaiuoli is a wide pedestrian street that connects piazza della Signoria with piazza Duomo. It is full of stores, from which you can buy bags, cosmetics, clothes, accessories. There you can also find a well known Italian department store (Coin). Well, you should not forget to visit Venchi Gelateria on Via dei Calzaiuoli bacause to me window shopping in Florence while eating my gelato is my happy thing.

The wide and long pedestrian street, that connects the Piazza del Duomo with the Piazza della Signoria, was until the 15th century divided in several segments, each named by the family or the type of business operated there. It is probably the most crowded street in the city, lined with shiny shops, elegant boutiques, fancy restaurants and convenient coffee bars. You will find everything you need along the road...

This wide, pedestrian friendly, stone street, sidewalk free, runs from Piazza del Duomo to Piazza della Signora. It is a shoppers delight, there are shops of quality brands of handbags, shoes, designer clothing along with restaurants, cafes and a church or 2. It provides a direct route to Piazza della Signora.

Less expensive shops, WAY too many people, warm temperatures - all make walking this area less than optimal. Yes, there are cafes and coffee shops, too, but we quickly decided to detour down some of the less crowded side streets making for a more pleasant stroll.
