this place was realty cool/fun to visit; you can see some of the leather work being done, and you can be assured of the quality of the items for sale (unlike the poor quality of a lot of the offerings at the small stores). most of the items for sale are pretty classic in style, and there's not a huge... Off the beaten track and not in too many guidebooks is the Scuola del Cuoio, The Gori Family School of leather. The school is a training facility for leather craftsmen from around the world, making handbags, shoes, garments and accessories. When we were there, we met Ms. Gori, granddaughter of the school's founder who gave us a really interesting background... More

I did my research before heading out to the leather goods stores, and this one was at the top of the list to check out. You can be assured of origin of your purchased goods... as you see the students hard at work! We saw some beautiful handbags and duffels that we were coveting. The exteriors of the bags were... If you're shopping for Italian Leather, this is the place to go. While you will pay more than you would at the open market or some of the shops throughout Florence, you can feel good about your purchase when made from Scuola Del Cuoio. I initially went to look for a leather briefcase in the open air market and quickly... More

We enjoyed the brief demonstration we saw on our tour. Top quality leather goods and prices to match. Small affordable gift items to elegant handbags and jackets. Peaceful location near busier square with many other leather shops. We found gifts here but to our surprise found our own high quality handbag and jacket in San Lorenzo market area.

There are almost as many leather stores in Florence as restaurants. Some are good, some are terrible and it's difficult to differentiate on a first glance. If leather is on your shopping list, you should give Scuola Del Cuoio. It is tricky to find, but worth looking for. All products (I think) are made on premises- as a matter of... More

The leather school is behind the Santa Croce Church and it is free admission. As you walk along the paths to enter the Shops where the goods are sold you will see the students at work learning their craft. The leather goods are absolutely beautiful and ranged in price from 6 Euro for small coin purses to Mucho Euro for... More

Really interesting to see the leather goods being made by the students. During the shopping process, we received very friendly service. Definitely recommend this place if you want good quality leather goods from Florence.

We just had a few hours in Florence, and the Scuola del Cuoio was the top of my list (we'll be back to do the 'proper' things in the future, I'm sure). Set in the cloisters of the Basilica of Santa Croce, we entered in through the private entrance in the back, and immediately everything became quiet and lovely. It's... More
