The "New" Fort is an integral part of Livorno's Little Venice. Once a key defense post of the canal, it is now part of an urban park. An interesting place to spend an afternoon.

One way in and out but a nice quiet place to climb up a bit and see some of the city around the castle. Plenty of shaded areas and several places to sit on a bench to relax. Walking paths need to be maintained, some...More

Walk through a tunnel and emerge in a park within a fortress. Probably a good place to visit with children. Good photo opportunities and a pleasant enough place to sit.

This piece of history has not been treated well by the passing of time. Obviously this was once an important fortification. Interesting.

This was a fort, it has been abandoned and converted into a park, nice for a walk, in the good weather would be good for a picnic, it is surrounded by canals, nice place to take photos

Surrounded by canals, the fortress suffered several changes during centuries and now it's just a shadow of what it was. Anyway, the views from some of the ramparts are nice.

Time has not been kind to this sprawling edifice, severely damaged by shelling in WWII. While reasonably interesting from the outside (similar to many other medieval forts), the inside has been left to feral cats and numerous birds. The tunnel walk to enter was spooky,...More

I found the new fortress just as unpleasant looking as the old one and can't help but wonder why the don't do something useful with these old forts. Put some nice shops and restaurants inside. So many other places in Europe have done this so...More

Had a bit weird visit in the fortress. There were pigeons, cats and me. Inside is park and play area for kids but seems that place isn't taken proper care of.

The fort is easy to access, interesting & historic site, information boards would have been helpful.
