Had a local guide that gave the history of the church. To much information to include in the review but look for the ancient graffiti on the outside wall of the building. part of the history of this city.

You will need to stare a long time at this most interesting front facade of this cathedral. There are so many unique columns and architectural embellishments. You will want to take many photos. You should go inside, however, compared to the inside, the views are anti-climactic. The surrounding piazza is very nice and filled with many tourists. There are many... More

Pretty sure I could study on this place for days. I thought it was very interesting that all of the columns on the front of the church were different.

Well worth the time to see the art housed within and the art that is part of the building itself. The more you know of the history of Lucca, the more you will appreciate what you see here.

This lovely church is on a big square - a square that was originally the Forum (Foro). Built in the 700s, it is quite impressive (we didn't go inside.) It was a favorite of the Pope. It's unusual and historical - definitely worth a look up at the statue of St. Michael slaying the dragon.

I'm not one for "the sights..." but I really loved seeing this in person. We got some breath-taking photos...and I just loved basking in the glory of the beauty that this offers.

Very nice cathedrale, the most beautiful church of Lucca (1143), to admire the nices sculptures, all in grey/green marble, inside it is very quit and relaxing, a cathedrale of splendour.

Lucca is unquestionable one of the highlights in any tour of Tuscany. San Michele in Foro is a Roman Catholic Basilica church that was built over the ancient Roman Forum. The Church is dedicated the Archangel Michael.

I'll leave the history part to other reviewers. I just want to share that if you visit Lucca for a few hours you'll see it, but you won't get it. You need at least a week of being there (or at least passing through it) to appreciate the permanence of it. Lucca is magical, and Piazza San Michele is it's... More
