Review of: Lucca: Self-Guided Tour by Bike
I highly recommend this tour. I was nervous at first thinking I would not be able to find the store, however it truly is left of the exit of the train station. The store manager was very pleasant and set up all of our bikes. He also gave us two maps one that is laminated and attached to the bike for an overview of Lucca and the other with more detail and history on each point of interest. He also gave us a suggested route of riding around the hole town on top of the wall first and then dropping into it at the point of interest locations. Having your bike prior to entering Lucca was a great plan due to the amount of people within the town wanting to rent bikes after walking for hours. This self guided tour gave us all the information we needed plus quality equipment including a lock to allow us to take our time and explore what we wanted. We were able to get around the town well within the rental time with plenty to spare for shopping and dining. …

I stayed at an apartment in Lucca for almost 3 wks a few blocks from the train station. It was a great location to take a train for a day trip or catch a bus from the bus stop outside the station. We also scheduled day trips via the Tourist Center in Lucca. We visited the Carrara marble quarry, Cinque Terre, Sienna, San Gimignano which included Chianti wine tasting. October was a great time to visit because the weather was very comfortable. …

Review of: Lucca: Self-Guided Tour by Bike
Lucca was a lovely getaway from all the August crowds. We rented bikes and first rode on top of the city wall and then explored the city centre. The place is really nice and peaceful, so you can enjoy it either on foot or by bike. It has a unique oval main square (Piazza dell' Anfiteatro) with bars shops and restaurants. There is also an attraction, the tower (Guinigi Tower) with trees planted on top. As we enjoyed beautiful views from the city wall, we didn't decide to climb the stairs. It's a nice place, the whole city is almost like a hidden gem.…

Review of: Lucca: Self-Guided Tour by Bike
My family includes 4 teenagers. We pre-booked 6 bike rentals at Lucca and pedalled around the top of the wall. We picked up some sandwiches in the village and ate at a picnic bench on the wall. Beautiful couple of hours. It was a stop on our drive from Cinque Terre to Pisa and beyond. The bikes were in great shape and came with a helpful map. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. …

Review of: Walking tour of Lucca
to avoid the stress that we had, do it like this: tripadvisor says to come at 01:30 to the tourist information at Piazza Ricasoli, but beware that there is a sign that points to a small old closed building saying 'tourist information', but don't wait there, it is the wrong one! go to the one that is on the right side when you face the railway station (Stazione). There you only get the tickets (and you have to get them even though you have the booking confirmation...) and afterwards you have to go to Piazza Verdi to another tourist information (in a historical building) where the tour starts at 02:00 p. m. The tour itself was really good and the local guide showed us historical as well as culinaric highlights and gave us good tips for not classic restaurants with moderate prices.…
