Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was lucky enough to see a performance of Puccini’s “ La Boheme” in this beautiful theatre, in his birthplace city. What a wonderful experience! As far as I could tell, when they present an opera, it is only for 3 days over a weekend so you have to look ahead at the theatre website as they are not frequent. It was an all Italian cast and it was truly excellent- so special to see an Italian opera surrounded by all Italians ( mostly!). The inside of the theatre is beautiful although not as ornate as some others in Italy. There are supertitles projected above the stage but in Italian of course, so if you don’t speak Italian or know the opera, your experience will be much enhanced by a little research/ study ahead of time. The tickets are very reasonably priced by American standards.

If you get this opportunity, don’t pass it up! I am sure it will be a highlight of my trip.

Very elegant building on the square of the same name, I did not go inside. I think it was built in the 19th century after the old building burned down. The adjacent square is also very nice.

The prior 17th century Teatro Pubblico was destroyed by fire, as were many theatres in Europe in those times, and the new theatre was built in the early 19th century designed by Giovanni Lazzarini in a Neo-Classical style. It has a nice balustrade supported by pilasters forming a portico. It is a very elegant building named after the lily flower, one of the symbols of the House of Bourbon.

The Teatro del Giglio neo-classical building is nothing special. Can't judge about the interior since it was closed.

Went to the concert "Italy loves America" on 9/11. Wonderful concert and had everything - opera songs, rock songs, and songs by Franc D'ambrosia. It look like everyone had a good seat. The boxes we were in were a little hot in the beginning. The Teatro was clean and ushers were very helpful.

coming to Lucca and finding such a great building treated so bad is a real letdown.
I went and see a selection from TOSCA in a small hall beside the theatre: never saw and listened to such demonstration of singing imcompetence and pianistic torture in my musical life.
Tosca had great luckof intonation all the way through first and second act, Cavaradossi had poor voice and Scarpia screamed incredibly. The Pianist did his best to overcome the ugly sounds by producing an overwhelming quantity of sound, more apt to Rachmaninov than to Puccini.
The entire show was in line with the status of the theatre: I sneaked into a couple of corridors and found dirt, dust, crocked walls, dirty floors. Very bad welcome in the musical house of the City of Giacomo Puccini.
Well, had we such a treasure in Massachussets this would be treated as a pantheon, not certainly as an old wharehouse.

Regarding a change of program, of the theater, the staff proved rude, unsympathetic and arrogant! Especially considering the fact that the problem was created by the theater itself..

Bad, very bad and extremely disappointed with the theater in my city. My mother and I had a subscription to the 2023-24 opera season, but due to a "misundestanding by I don't know who" they sold our ticket. Fortunately they found us another place to see the opera but the lady at the secretary was very rude and arrogant, placing all the blame on us. I have been working in the public sector for 15 years and I know that you cannot address customers like this.

It doesn't matter how long it went and what kind of show it saw.
I just wanted to point out some points about the Giglio theater in Lucca.
It's narrow, small, it's difficult to move when going to sit in your seat, you have to eliminate a row of seats in the stalls, the theater earns less but it's more liveable for the spectator, a seat in the stalls doesn't cost much little and it is right that there is a certain comfort of space.
Good companies or theater actors of a certain caliber haven't come here for years. Someone explained to me why the Giglio theater is expensive to rent for an evening or several evenings, large sums which would consequently lead to an excessive ticket cost! A few years ago, about ten years ago, there was or rather there should have been Massimo Ranieri, seat ticket cost €100. The event was cancelled! Reason? According to them, technical reasons or something! Meh!
Massimo Ranieri never returned to the Teatro del Giglio! Massimo Ranieri puts on a show at least once a year at the Teatro Verdi Montecatini and at the Teatro Verdi Firenze! Let's ask ourselves some questions!
The Giglio theater could be better exploited, with actors and companies that are not only well-known, good and talented but also with shows by amateur companies or charity shows and much more, it would be enough if it cost a little less to rent.
