- RazorfishLittle Rock, Arkansas5,287 contributionsPiazza with the sites of medieval PisaMy wife and I visited Pisa during an excursion on a Viking Ocean Cruise this past November. The Piazza contains the major buildings to see in Pisa. It contains the Leaning Tower, the Cathedral, and the Baptistery. It was a rainy day, but we still enjoyed our tour of Pisa. Rather than waiting in line to go up the Tower and to see the other sites, we went to a coffee shop and chilled for an hour.Visited November 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 October 2023
- angeleyes27Brigantine, New Jersey5,334 contributionscool buildings all in one squareI felt this was better than expected. We only got inside the Baptistery as we only had about 40 minutes here. We didn't climb the tower. There are several things to see such as: tower, cathedral, baptistery, museum, cemetery, etc. Make sure you take the picture trying to straighten the tower. This was one of my husband's favorites in our whole trip to Italy. Construction here begun in 1092. There are 296 steps to the top of the leaning tower.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 December 2023

A view like nothing that I had ever seen before and in the afternoon sun the brightness of the marble all around me was almost overpowering. Unfortunately the tickets to go into all of the buildings are sold out well in advance so I could only marvel from the outside. That in itself was awesome but I so wish that I had thought to look some weeks earlier to get tickets.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 May 2024
- Kurt CMalta25 contributionsIt is truly the Square of MiraclesIt was my first time that I visited Pisa and this magnificent square. I dare say that Pisa is very underrated compared to its tuscan counterparts. This area although filled with tourists, still manages to provide you with a serene environment. Highly suggested that people visiting Tuscany, to spend at least 1 day in Pisa.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 June 2024
- dese2Auburn, New York3,453 contributionsWhere to find all the major tourist attractionsAs you enter you are greeted by white marble. All the religious building are cover in bright, beautiful white marble. And be prepared for crowds. Actually, it was crowded all the way to the Piazza. There is a sign with information, but you can immediately see major buildings you are there to see. Also, there are restaurants and public toilets. The toilets cost 1 Euro. Be prepared for lines at every stop you want to make. The grassy areas were closed by chains, but some people were walking on the grass.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 June 2024
- EyekaytooLeverkusen, Germany3,143 contributionsPopular spot for visitorsThe day we were there it was hot, busy and spectacular. I hadn't realized that three major, impressive building are on this site, namely the tower, cathedral and baptism dome. All situated on well manicured lawns. We tried to stay in the shade and avoid the crowds which was relatively easy. Of course you have a plethora of souvenir shops as well as cafes, ice cream shops and restaurants selling their goods at relatively high prices. But I simply enjoyed the people watching and seeing how many tourists were jostling to take that iconic (!) photograph of either trying to straighten the tower or push it further to lean at an even greater angle. Without much success :-)Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 August 2024

The place is very beautiful and the tower itself is not like in the pictures. It is wider. The place is cozy. You can sit on several lawns and a lot of teenagers kiss in the shade. Romance! You can climb the tower itself only by buying tickets for a specific time in advance and handing over a bag somewhere. You can't carry bags. Be sure to visit!

This cathedral is less known than the Pise Tower, but it is definitely stunning. The exterior is flamboyant with white marble and very detailed statues. The interior is monumental, and proposes various paintings of high quality.
The cathedral can be accessed with the same ticket as the Tower.

Really an excellent place to visit. Obviously everyone knows about the tower but there is so much more. The interior of the cathedral is stunning and the frescos in the cloisters really are pretty special especially the depictions of death and the devil in the last judgement.

Piazza dei Miracoli is located in Pisa, in Tuscany Region, in Italy. Really, it is the most turistic point in the city, where you can see 4 incredible places: Leaning Tower (in fact, it is the bell tower of the cathedral), Duomo (the cathedral), Camposanto (the cemetery) and baptistery: Incredible buildings! the tower is the most known, and it is wonderful, especially if you go up (with a prebooking always, in August-2019, when we visited this place), but the other buildings are also great. Pitifully, always the square is full of tourists. All want to visit this place! A top on world!

Piazza dei Miracoli is one of those things, that if you have the possibility to see, you have to take the chance. We were having holidays in Castagneto Carducci (I know, I know, it's in Livorno's provice, which do not gel that well with Pisa), so we took a day off from the beach to visit this architectonic wonder. Due to the heat, I did not dare to force my kids to climb the tower, however, we visited all the rest of the buildings of the square, including the musea. Since it was very hot, we did a quick (and shallow) visit w/o pondering in too much details. Noteworthy, at least for me, the statue of Fibonacci and the frescos inside the "Camposanto" and the model of the leaning tower made in alabaster insider the museum.
Ah, do not stop eating ice creams in the surroundings: they are expensive and not good

This was our second visit and it doesn't disappoint. A set of stunning buildings spaced apart and surrounded by grass and pathways. It is not just the Leaning Tower but also the Cathedral, the Baptistry and a colonnade called the Camposanto that contains various statues and examples of Roman sarcophagi.
The area has a fortified wall around it along with towers and you enter through an old gateway called Porta Nuova. Even when there are loads of tourists the space is enough to be able to clearly see all the buildings and even locate a peaceful spot or two.

The Piazza as a whole is a lovely space to spend time taking in the sites and relaxing for free. I would recommend buying tickets to see inside the buildings but the exteriors are amazing by themselves. It is worth noting that the toilets behind the cathedral cost €1 for adults (children are free) but are by far the best I have come across at an attraction in Italy - a welcome change!
The best option for tickets to the attractions is to buy tickets online the day before as you can get all the attractions and a tower climb rolled into one (and guarantee yourself a tower visit slot also). We parked at the Parcheggio Pubblico a pagamento which is just across the road, has lots of spaces and also has a toilet. I did notice lots of free parking by the river as you come into town, which is just a short walk away and might be worth considering.

t is the best example of how a serious mistake can make something world-famous. The leaning tower is leaning because the foundations of the building are not right, but the walls of the cathedral are also very crooked.
The leaning tower is not worth taking up, the cathedral and the Camposanto are a great experience. Pisano's pulpit is definitely worth a close look. I expected more from the picture of the Madonna di sotto gli organi. The church contains the tomb of the German-Roman Emperor Henry VII.
The Camposanto was bombed by the Americans during the war, beautifully rebuilt. It is said that the soil in the Camposanto comes from Jerusalem and very quickly decomposes whoever is buried there.
The Battistero is more beautiful on the outside than the inside, rather puritanical in its interior decoration.
The lawn is beautiful and it's nice to see the end of the rabble-rousing near the square that had been there constantly in previous decades.

Square of Miracles also formally known as Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square), is a walled area located in Pisa or Tuscany. Well recognized as important Medieval art and the finest architectural complexes in the world it draws millions of locals & tourists to its attractions. The square is famous for the 4 great religious edifices: the Pisa Cathedral, the Pisa Baptistry, the Campanile, and the Camposanto Monumental.
We visited in a tour group end-Nov and it was drizzling the whole morning, dousing much fun.
The square is surrounded by a beautiful green lawn where tourists and locals were seen lying down and relax in the amazing setting, amid the rain?! There are also pillars and one with the stature of she-wolves & the 2 Rs symbolising Roma.
People were posing interestingly to get the Leaning Tower in their views. The Cathedral, Baptistery & Cemetery found in the piazza have been considered central to the locals religious life, symbolizing the main stages of a human life: the Baptistery represents birth, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta life and the Camposanto,to death. One needs to pay and queue to go into all the 4 buildings. With the limited time we visited the Camposanto and were rewarded with the visit and left impressed.
There are a few cafes and alfresco dining but we chose the familiar MacDonald’s nearby for a quick meal. Crowd came in throngs just after 1pm and time for us to move on.. a memorable trip indeed

Please visit our official website (ITA/ENG) and you get all the information you may need for organising the visit.
you need the ticket if you want to visit our monuments and museums.
Instead you don’t need the ticket to watch from outside and walk the square, of course.
If you would like any further information, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

If you just want to walk in and see the Tower and take photos, what are the hours for that? Same as when the Tower itself is open? Can you just walk around the plaza before the tower opens?

Hi there, I too love in Sidcup and we're going to Pisa in two weeks time for three nights. I've just booked the tower but was wondering if you had any tips for travelling to other local places by bus? We're thinking of Florence but your advice would be great please? Cheers, Karen
Written 4 June 2019
Hi Karen!
Go by train to Florence is my advice, we did that. It’s quick. Take a bus just outside the wall in Pisa to Lucca, a beautiful little town you don’t want to miss! If you like Puccini, this town has a Puccini museum in the apartment the family lived in. Lucca has also amazing churches. It has a fantastic oval square that is built on a former Roman amphitheater. The town has also a charming wall which is wide enough to walk on it. It’s full of trees and it’s very peaceful to take a walk on it.
Hope you will enjoy your time in these cities.

You need about 30 min to walk inside the building and to have a look around. You have to buy a ticket which is valuable for the other places as well. It is not very expensive, but I can not remember the ticket price. Have fun, it is worth seeing it! Regards Daniel

Vorrei visitare da tempo Pisa e i suoi principali monumenti, mi chiedevo se nella zona circostante ci fossero dei parcheggi per auto,se si, distano molto dal centro ?
Written 19 August 2017
Assolutamente no piazza Cavallotti.
