If you walk out here you can see the huge thick wall of the old city. It crosses the river just in front of the tower and turns left away from the city for a while.

This is the angle to actually gauge how much the tower is leaning. If you looked at it by itself or without a 90 degree angle object to compare it with, it's hard to see.

The tower is symbolic of the struggles between the Guelf and Ghibelline parties in Italy. The remarkable political history of Tuscany before and during the Renaissance can't be understanding without understanding the Guelfs. The Torre, on the Piazza Tersanaia (not the more famous Torre pictured here) is a beautifully stark building. Superb.

It is so weird to climb these stairs.. Even though it is a steep stretch, it's worth it! View is great with the Mountains behind the pretty bells. In december not that many people around so relax and enjoy the atmosphere

Please spend some time in Pisa. It's a wonderful example of the time. Read up on the powerful families that held sway in the area, and the towers will take on new meaning.

The Guelph is another leaning tower built on the silty soil base of Pisa, but it's not the world renowned "leaning Tower" found in the Piazza dei Miracoli - but it's still a stunner for sure. Yes, you can climb it and the lines are much shorter, but seriously do you really need to climb two leaning towers in Pisa?... More

Ok maybe I am a numpty but I didnt realise you could climb the tower. What a lovely surprise! Not expensive to obtain tickets either and the views from the top were simply stunning! Plus afterwards you can get a lovely icecream from the restaurants opposite. What is there not to love?

I was fascinated with the books on the ancient world wonders, Since I was a little boy. I took the chance to Visit Pisa when I went on a business trip to Fillizano to take a detour and visit the Guelph Tower. It was worth the 3.5 Hour ride. It was nice to see all the other tourists taking funny... More
