This is a smaller and less crowded area then Rome or Florence, so obviously it was more relaxed. The little shops we so cute with good prices for food and gifts. Also no one hassles you!!! The views from the tower are amazing! There’s a...More

If you visit the town you must climb the tower. Fantastic vantage point to survey the rolling hills around. The stairway is modern and steel, easy to climb.

beautiful walled city loaded with charming shops and restaurant-cafes, just remember, if you must visit the restroom, it's at the very top of the village, make sure you have change, even that costs money here....

These towers are a (unique ?) feature of San Gimignano. They are visible miles away, dominating the town centre and beckoning tourists. The bell tower is particularly prominent, adjacent to the main square.

That's advice for anything that has stairs. Save your energy. It's a climb just to get to San Gimignano itself, and your energy is better spent exploring every twist and turn vs. blowing your gasket on a tower.

Although not all the towers have survived, the bell tower has. The tower is another fascinating site to this walled medieval city. It is amazing to see cities built in medieval times and still functioning in the plaza.

The climb up the steps seems to go on forever but once at the top you're rewarded with wonderful views of San Gimignano and the surrounding countryside. Not the easiest thing after a long day of Tuscan hill walking, but push yourself!

To get a bird's eye view of the walled city and its surroundings it is worth climbing up lots of stairs, which is not easy for the elderly! History explained in a video show while climbing!
