Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The benefit of getting to Siena by train is a much more comfortable trip than on a bus sized for Italians. The downside is that it's a long way uphill to the center of town. Taking a taxi is well worth.

Unfortunately trains to Siena do not go directly from Rome or any other major tourist centre other than Florence. To travel from Rome, Venice, Milan etc to Siena you have to catch a train to Florence and then transfer to a train that goes to Siena.
Once exiting the station your options to get to the town centre, which is at the top of a hill, are to catch a taxi, a bus (which picks up at the station but takes a circuitous route to get to the bus terminus in town) or walk.
If you decide to walk the best route is to walk across the small square outside of the station and enter the Porta Siena, a shopping centre. Two escalators within the shopping centre will take you to the entrance to a further four escalators and two moving walkways that will transport you up to the top of the hill and the Viale Vittorio Emanuel II. It is an approximately ten minute walk along the Viale from here to the Porta Camollia, one of the entrance gates to the city. It is a further approximately 15 minutes walk from the Porta Camollia to Il Campo.

From Roma Termini station using the IC510 Turin-bound train departing mid morning, we travelled to Grosetto where we had about 110 minutes for a pleasant cheap lunch not far from the station.
We then caught the two-car diesel railcar from Grosetto on the quite scenic line to Siena's station, observing vineyards, rail tunnels, olive groves and even a castle along the way, plus enchanting architecture at intermediate stations.
Siena's station is well laid out with all necessary facilities and a good shopping centre 100 metres away through the car park. We found a good supermarket that had a great variety of ready-to-eat foods so we stocked up for the next leg via train to Turin.

You can walk or take the bus to the center. Convenient. Has a grocery store too. Bus station has machine that doesn’t spit out change. So, be ready for exact amount.

The station is approximately located 2.0km from the Campo. The station is clean. The toilets are accessed through the cafe. You will need to ask the staff at the cafe for the key. If you are staying close to the Campo my suggestion would be to grab a taxi. It will cost approx 10 Euros but is worth it. When without luggage the walk to the station (about 20 minutes) via the escalators is easy. We found the staff at both the train and bus ticket counters helpful. Their english was also good. We used the train to go south to Rapolano Terme (hot springs) and north to both Cinque Terre and Lucca.

We arrive in Siena by train and had very good instructions on how to find our hotel. However the station must be in a valley because to get to street level we had to travel on escalator, after escalator.
We managed to walk to the historic centre as we came with hand luggage.

This is a small station, which is easy to navigate, and has an easy-to-find departures board for imminent departures, as well as a timetable of all departures in chronological order as as usual in Italian stations.
If arriving by train, watch out that the station is well out of the centre and you will need to take a bus ... of which there are many ... but the buses towards the centre depart from the OPPOSITE side of the road. You need to go down a staircase just before the shopping centre.
Don't take the buses from the SAME side of the road as the station, they go away from the centre!

The station in Siena is a little way outside the walled city. It is not really practical to walk if you have heavy luggage - there are buses but we took a taxi to and from our hotel. Very contrasting drivers - on arrival we had a crazy one who took us the outside route given the time of day; on departure early morning, we were lucky to get a more sedate driver who took us the more direct route through the middle.
The station itself is purely functional with very little architectural appeal.

If you arrive by car to Siena you will soon be aware that there is no small problem to park your car.Good to know is that right next to the station you will find a parking garage adjacent to the shopping mall. A little unclear with payment rules, this day the booms were open and it turned out to be free, which I do not believe applies to other days. However, asked some helpful locals who gave me a polette that you obviously get if you shop in any of the stores in the shopping arcades.A long escalator takes you up close to the entrance into Siena

It's not a big city, but very charming. I stayed in the historic center.
10 to 15 minutes from the station.
I recommend.
