We dont even planned to check this one, but this ancient cistern is great - if you can, check it after blue hour.

The medieval fountain (it is more a cistern than a fountain) was built in the 13th century with three arches in Gothic style and a crenellated roof near the city gate after which it was named. It is a bit out of the usual tourists’...More

I discovered this site by accident. Really interesting how the place evolved and the importance it had to the city. Really interesting

This does take a bit of finding but it is very close to the Porte de Fontebranda (city gate). Really interesting history to this place. To get back up to the city centre there are a set of escalators opposite

Just off the main area of town lies this ancient water source. There is an info board explaining the 100’s of years of history. Definitely worth taking the time to find

Constructed in 12th century and still in working order. Water apparently comes from some aqueduct. It is clear but no longer drinkable. Pity!

This ancient "fountain" (really a water supply for the locals of the time, dating back to 1192 IIRC) is about a 5-minute walk downhill from the main sights. There is none of the impressive artwork found elsewhere in Siena, but it is a large building...More
