We walked to this fortress towards the end of our day in Siena. It is easy to access and is free to walk in. It is set in a park and is an easy walk up ramps to the walls, where there are far reaching views over the town and surrounding countryside. A good way to end the visit.

Pleasant walk from the centre to the Fortezza and wonderful views from the Fortezza. Interesting to walk around the walls.

This castle is very large and all the walls are excellent condition. It is easily accessible and has easy access to the walls. It is a hard surface with only a few easy steps to negotiate. The views are terrific and very photogenic. It is quite a large castle but for some reason appears to be bigger on the outside... More

We only walked around, but it reminds us of lucca. The wall was high and thick. We saw people running on top. Might have been a nice visit

This was honestly my favourite thing to do in Siena and the best part is that it's absolutely free! The fortress is situated on the Viale V Veneto on the West side of Siena so it's just outside the main tourists spots and is probably why you can see a lot of locals jogging around the fortress walls away from... Lovely views over the city (including the Duomo and Tower of course). Nice and quiet. Lots of shady spots with some seats and grassy patches to relax. This is where you need to head after a hectic touristy day in the centro.

This is a bit of walk from central Siena but well worth it. Strangely this place doesn't get many tourists but it is popular with locals out for a walk or jog. The views of Siena and the surrounding countryside from the walls of this fortress are spectacular. There is no charge and the jazz school provides lovely music that... More

For some reason that I have not researched this is also known as Fortezza Medici; it is located at the top end of the walled city just beyond the main bus stop. There is one main brick built building used by a jazz school so on our visit we enjoyed the music practice and there were even a couple of... More

If you find yourself Basilica'd out and you had enough people watching at Il Campo this is an interesting place for a tree lined stroll around the fortification walls of this large fort turned into a park and underground wine museum. The stroll around the top of the walls is perhaps 1/2 mile and offers great views of Siena. The... More
