Overwhelming. Beautiful. The work done in spite of earthquakes, etc., overwhelming. So beautiful. The love and faith throughout lovely.

This basilica is on three levels. Siant Francils is buried at the lowesst level. The relics of his life are worth looking at. Giotto has played a major part in decorating the churches in the upper levels.

This huge outer courtyard is magnificent and not to be missed on an Assisi visit. It is the best way to appreciate the architecture of this marvelous church.

The Assisi Basilica is worth the journey. It is best viewed in the evenings or mornings before the throngs of visitors arrive. There are also other sacred Saint Francis sites all worth seeing very close by.

Absolutely a must see. The glorious basilica is one the most beautiful and peaceful places on earth. The frescos and colors are amazing. The original or “downstairs” church is my absolute favorite place.

Even for those who are not religious, this church is well worth a visit. A number of iconic paintings of St Francis and St Clare and hidden surprises in corners here and there. Steps lead down to the tomb of San Francesco and it would...More
