This is really worth visiting. We essentially came across the Rocca Paolina by accident, passing between our appartament and the city centre. At Christmas time there’s a fantastic market with great gifts to be found; be that cheese, salumi, or even some tasty spirits. The...More

The Rocca Paolina made our visit to Perugia!! An architectural marvel. Amazing Etruscan ruin and transport marvel to the Centro Storico. Explore the Rocca... lots to see.

The unusual connection between the bus station and the old main square, allows a showcase of history. Despite the town not fully exploring the potential of that fantastic bit of Perugia, there's plenty to learn about it.

A fascinating place to visit. Not quite like anything you would see elsewhere. The video show showing aspects of the city's history is excellent and worth stopping to see

Enchanting place which we stumble upon as we have not prepared any special plan for visiting Perugia. We took escalators to the historic center and suddenly found ourselves in a different time and place. Moder structures greatly attuned with historic walls and streets. Hauntingly beautiful!

Hundreds or thousands of people will pass through the Rocca Paolina, on the escalators taking you up to Corso Vannucci. However many will never discover the amazing history of this fortress. Do not miss this.

Many towns in Umbria have a medieval castle high above the houses, often built by cardinal Albornoz. The one in Perugia is special in that it incorporated several older structures, which are still well visible, and that much of it was destroyed by angry citizens...More

If you park in the Piazzale Partigiani car park near the bus station, a series of escalators take you to the heart of this area before you pop out to the piazza and old town. Rocca Paolina is a Renaissance fortress built in the 1500's...More

Just to look at the underground Rocca will take 15 minutes. It is free. It helps to be prepared and know what you are looking at. Often times there is also a section open as museum gallery to visit (usually also free of... More
