Based on TA I discovered this place, and I have been to Perugia many times before. The location is not center center, and we visited the church at the end of the afternoon not leaving us sufficient time to really get an understanding of this ancient art work. When I entered the church I was welcomed by a little dog... More

Made a special trip to Perugia to see this (and to have a burger). First, we found out that is is actually within walking distance of the fabulous Ecce Bombo Burger joint where we had lunch. A happy surprise, but then we spent an afternoon entranced by the history of Marta's family, and the church, and Italian weaving, and the... More

Our University group visited the museum and I really enjoyed the opportunity to learn how the cloths were made, the human powered looms and the impact that textiles have made in Perugia. This is a one of a kind place and worth checking out.

My colleagues and I visited Marta at her beautiful de-consecrated church studio and knew we'd found a gem! Marta and her spunky canine companions were welcoming and warm. She explained the history of this textile craft, her family's involvement, and demonstrated the depth of skill and labor associated with its revival. Marta's textile products were available for sale, in the... More

This workshop/museum for traditional hand-woven textile is definitely worth seeing while in Perugia. We got a really interesting (and completely free) tour from the granddaughter of Giuditta Brozzetti. She explains everything with such love and passion and you can truly feel how much she wants to keep this part of Umbrian culture and history alive. We bought a small piece... More

This workshop/museum is one of few within Italy, Europe and probably the world. It is keeping alive a centuries old craft that women have sustained for centuries. Giuditta Brozzatti is a national treasure, keeping alive her great-aunt's enterprise that provided support and dignity to poor rural girls and women in Perugia. What is most wonderful is that the looms and... More

I am Italian but I have lived in the States since 1999 and this year, during spring break, my family and I decided to visit Umbria. Giuditta Brozzetti's workshop was the highlight of our trip. This is a hidden gem in Perugia, located in a wonderful old church. The woman who runs the workshop, Marta, gave us an amazing tour,... More

A breath of fresh air from the usual rounds of tourist attractions. Marta gave us a fascinating demonstration of traditional textile manufacture, customised for my kids (5, 8, 10). My 8 and 10 year old sons were riveted by the old machines (5 year old was more interested in Marta's dogs!) and since then they have stopped to inspect other... More

This is a must do activity if you are in Perigia. Call or email ahead to make a booking. This type of tour is what makes travel interesting, educational, and memorable. Marta has a passion for her craft, and a gift for her weaving that is magical.
