Wow, another old church building in Europe, like Temples in Thailand. Many, many, same-same but different. Great architecture, riches and tourist attractions. No, this one is not as fancy as the competing Munster Church but maybe more of what a church is supposedly about...helping mere humans best navigate the ride on earth (if not collecting gold and ornaments). This building has some nice lines and is definitely in a nice part of Old Town Basel along a good-choice route for your exploration of same.

I visit a lot of churches in Europe. This one is said to be the oldest in Basel. It’s off a little street and tucked away although you can see the top from the river. It’s nice and it’s old. I liked it.

If you visit Basel you'll surely go see the Basel Münster. From there, if you walk downhill west to the Rhine, you'll find this neat little church, built on a spur of the Münster hill (Münsterhügel). Today it is only open for concerts. It is the oldest church in Basel (AD 1101, reportedly), but especially it is a prehistoric archaeologic site - a settlement of 900 BC has been found on the spur. The bell tower, completed 14th-15th century, is architectonically interesting. It was a watch tower, with a permanent watch post on the top floor. Worth a short stop.
