Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It certainly has history on its side, given that it dates from around 1400.
One of the numerous defences and gates on the fortification wall it is one of just a trio that survived the 19th century demolition of the wall.
It is impressive with an intermingling of light and dark stone. Walking through the arch it was interesting to see the formidable paling that would have been lowered when the city was faced with dangers.

Dating back to the14th century, it is one of the three preserved City Gates of Basel. The elegant building stands in a beautiful and peaceful Park. What an awesome scenery.
Though not as famous as the Spalentor, this medieval Gate still deserves a visit.

The walk from Munsterplatz to St Albans takes you though an old, green neighborhood that evokes the charm of "old world" German neighborhoods, with twisting streets, lots of tall trees, and near absolute quiet. A beautiful old church with a small graveyard lies at the foot of the gate, which sits upon a rocky hilltop. If you walk down the hill from the park-side of the gate, you'll find a small brook with a footbridge and the old medieval city walls of Basel, which you can follow the length of (on wither side) towards the river - then you can walk the embankment all the way to the new bridge. If you like walking tours, stumbling upon cool things, this Gate and it's neighborhood is wonderful

Follow the path downhill from the park and it brings you to a section of the old city wall. Some impressive old buildings around here.

If you have the time, it's well worth a walk from Basel's busy Old Town downtown through the quiet, leafy neighborhood of St. Albans with its beautiful homes and cobblestone streets and alleyways. Besides this 13th century city gate, the leisurely ferry across the Rhine and the paper mill museum are nearby and wonderful.

St.Alban's Gate is not so well known as the Spalentor. But it is interesting because it is connected to a well preserved part of the fortification that defended the river entrance to the medieval town. Today it is the referance point to the landing place of the cruise boats.

St Albans Tor is situated in a quiet part of Basel not too far from the Rhine. Lovely spot for a picnic and nice place for some photography. Definitely a must see attraction in the outskirts of Basel city.

Sitting on top of St. Alban's Tor, this gate is not quite as impressive as the Spalentor Gate, but still a nice example. In a quiet park, a short walk (past a part of the city wall) up from the Papermaking Museum.

One of the last things to visit during a delightful stroll through the St Alban-Tal Quartier, Basel's "mini Venice". The park through the gateway is fairly underwhelming but has some nice vistas through to the Rhine.

We walked through the lovely area of St albans to this tor, is is quite quaint and worth the walk. There is a viewing point in the park next to it which was good for photographs.
