Protected by law, the center part of the old town of Biel is still very well conserved. Do not miss first friday (every first friday of a month), stores are longer open this evening and life is - specially in summer - everywhere in the small rods.

We were lucky enough to be there on first Friday. They have a local celebration the. With vendors and music through our old town. We were thrilled.

Although not a very large area the area shows lots of charm and interesting little side roads.
The arched sidewalks are very typical and reminded me of Bern.
We stopped for a coffee in the main square which was very peaceful.

A little gem really, didn't know what to expect having visited countless old town in Switzerland but certainly Bienne Old Town is full of charm.

Lovely Biel is located on the 'language boundary' between French and German, and both languages are spoken. Strolling through the Old Town, with a beautiful town hall, gothic church and ornate fountains, was an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.
