Very educational even the audioguide tour was outstanding with several guide voices and perspective and music and sound effects. Nicely kept and clean ...a pleasure to visit. Parking was alittle challenging as it happens before the museum and for the English speaker it was not clear enough. I had entered the bunkers, Festung Furigen in the GPS and the place is called Nidwaldener , and "museum" The walk between the parking lot and the entrance is very reasonable and flat just very narrow for passing cars .…

My husband and I went with friends for a tour of the Sonnenberg Bunker. The tour was excellent! Our guide Zora was extremely knowledgeable and we learned so much about Switzerland and the commitment to its citizens safety in the event of a disaster. Prior to this we were not aware of the shelter requirements mandated by law here. We would both highly recommend this tour in Lucerne. The tour does require a moderate amount of walking and there are a few stairs but most of the tour is accessible by ramps.…

This is hands down an amazing tour, but you have to be in Lucerne at the right time to take advantage. It is generally available in English just one day a month -- a schedule that presumably matches limited demand -- and that is a shame because it offers a fascinating look at Swiss engineering prowess, its recent history, and the country's mindset. It is also a lesson in human limitations; despite incredible underground facilities built as part of nationwide efforts to provide clean air, water, medical facilities and other needs for every Swiss citizen in case of a nuclear war, it became clear over time that their collective ability to fully meet the need is, at best, questionable. I should note that as of this writing, Switzerland still requires bunker space for each resident, either near or under their homes/apartments or in public shelters like this one. And even if the bunkers would not fully meet the need, it would appear the Swiss would survive the fallout from nuclear war better than almost any other nation. There are few other tours like this anywhere in the world. This year, it is offered on the last Sunday of each month April through September, and, sadly, it seems few people take up the option; on our tour June 30, I counted 16 people in all, and several were native German speakers. While Lucerne's many attractions deservedly get the most attention, if you are able to take this tour, it offers an, experience that, if not unique, is certainly most unusual. My friend and I joined the tour on Sunday 28th July - Zora was our guide. Zora was fantastic and very knowledgable about the ins and outs of the bunker. It was very interesting and would highly recommend!

I'll be honest, going to the bunker was a part of our tour that I was not looking forward to, but fortunately I went anyway. We were the only ones in the bunker and our local guide, Zora, was wonderful. It is simply fascinating that this exists and the history around it. So glad I went!…
