The Gorge is a cleft in the rock, lined with very accessible walkways but narrow, twisty, and fascinating. High walls, the occasional waterfall, and the rush of the river make this a great adventure. An easy walk from Meiringen.

Lovely. Clean as a whistle, a gentle event to see the Famous Falls (not quite as violent or spectacular as one might have expected) but reasonable price, quaint ascent in the funicular. All rather charming.

A day trip from Alpenblick exceeded all expectations. Sturdy shoes are necessary as it can get muddy and it is a seasonal attraction. The funicular is a delight and a combined ticket for the Aare gorge makes a wonderful day. Meiringen has cafes galore and...More

Went on the funicular railway up to the top of the falls, which were amazing. Beautiful views were had up at the top and whilst going up and down the tracks.

If you're a Sherlock Holmes' fan (like I am), it's impossible to visit the Berner Oberland and not pay homage at the Reichenbach Falls (the place of his supposed death fighting with Professor Moriarty). The falls are impressive and it's worth the hike to the...More

quite close to the aare gorge. you can combine the two places to visit on the same day. the gushing water of the falls is fascinating to watch and it perhaps does not reduce its flow even in summer since the source is mountain springs...More

We went at the end of July 2017, after heavy rain for a few days, and the falls were really, really impressive. You squeeze up the side of them, following a perfectly safe, but narrow pathway hewn out of the gorge's walls, directly above the...More

The Swiss trains are excellent. However, the train station is in the middle of the town of Meiringen, and the falls are at least 2 miles away (maybe 3 miles) -- a walkable distance, but the falls are not real close. Renting... More

I do not know. There were no dogs on our funicular ride up or down and we did not see any dogs on the trail.

Yes, you can walk up, and I guess it would take about an hour and a half to reach the falls from the railway station or an hour from the car-park. If you arrive by 9 you can be back in Interlaken for lunch.
