Kornplatz (Corn Square)
Kornplatz (Corn Square)

About
This square is older than its name; until the 17th century it was still known as Klosterplatz. Then the adjoining monastery was closed and a corn granary set up in the church. With the departure of the monks, the old name for the square also disappeared. The name Kornplatz (Corn Square) has remained to this day – in spite of the fact that the once stringently controlled corn trade was liberalised in 1840 and the corn granary closed down. While the square served as a site for various markets right into the last century, these days it is an important intersection between the sleepy Old Town and the livelier modern district.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We hadn’t heard of this town before we visited but we’re in for a great surprise. It is Switzerland oldest known civilisation and is absolutely beautiful everywhere.
This particular square is probably not the best in the town but it’s still full of history and wonderful buildings.
There are lots of expensive shops around and also some great bars and restaurants so definitely worth seeking out.

The Kornplatz is an area in the old town of Chur. The area has a small playground just around the corner from the City Police (Stadt Polizei) and it also includes some restaurants, Denner (supermarket), furniture stores and ice cream place. It also has a Toy store that has 4 floors. It is small but very enchanted. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable definitely worth a visit.

Kornplatz or corn square is another quaint square in old town Chur Switzerland, just around the corner from the police office. So many nice squares.

Yesterday evening we spontaneously went to the Kornplatz restaurant for dinner after a long time. The lady welcomed us and served us very friendly. Unfortunately, that was the only positive thing about the evening.
The beautiful restaurant has obviously mutated into a dump - the chef spends more time outside at the regulars' table than in his kitchen. Now for the food. The menu is very straightforward and has little choice. The whole thing is also very grubby and dirty. The same goes for the plate mats, which urgently need to be replaced. A no-go - the paper napkins - that shows the quality of this place right from the start.
The salad and the sauce were OK - the Italian salad dressing had a bit too much vinegar.
For the main course we had fillet burgers (without bread) - the meat was cooked through and not really edible. If that was a fillet medallion, then the chef simply ruined the meat. The fries were not really fresh. The side dishes were OK - the pickles were inedible.
All in all, the Kornplatz restaurant left a miserable impression - a pity for the beautiful, old parlor.

Although it was a sunday, and all of the stores are closed, it was still worthwhile to visit switzerland's oldest city

It is difficult to evaluate every square in Chur because the whole old city has to be seen as great in its totality. This corn square in the highest part of city is pretty, peaceful and very picturesque

A small square in Chur. Again very peaceful and calm around. Good for relaxing while you strolled around the area. But not as attractive as other larger squares in town.

A charming place in the oldest town of Switzerland, with his secret history, buildings, some cafés, young people like and enjoy this square.

There are plenty of lovely spots to walk around in the old town. Kornplatz is nothing special, so just enjoy other sights.
