After a wonderful night staying in Bellagio on Lake Como we drove the hour and a half to the ascent of Monte Generoso. You have to cross the border into Switzerland as the best starting point is on the Swiss side. There is a car park on the way up to the Bella Vista station, near a restaurant (closed on... More

Not high, not alps and yet you get both: a magnificent view point too look at the alps and the plains of Italy (and even the sun with a 600mm telescope near the restaurant) The new restaurant is under constructuion (2015) so I can't rate it but the view will be excellent

Mnt.Generoso is located near the lakeshore of Lugano Lake , between the borders of the Swiss Canton of Ticino and the Italian region of Lombardy. From the summit the view include the Lugano and Como Lakes , some northern Italian cities in the south and in the north some of the best known Swiss pick depending of the visibility .... More

360 degree view on the Alps and the Po Plain. Nice for a mid season hike. Next year the station and restaurant will open so the place will probably become too crowded.

The Monte Generoso is a mountain in the southern part of Ticino. The best way to get there is by train. The small train starts from Rivera and brings you up to the top. Once you get there, you have a beautiful view of the Southern Alps, Lake Lugano, the Lombardia region and for sure the Sottoceneri (the southern part... More

A day trip from Domodossola to Lugano with the Funicular was indeed a fantastic experience. Beautiful sceneries all throughout the way. You could feel the tranquility and the fresh air

Great experience. Nice trip up with little train. Once on the top, you can see all canton of Ticino with mountain behind. Lovely place to enjoy the views or have a pick nick with friends. Worth a trip.

Catch the local train from Lugano to Capolago and you find the station for Monte Generoso , with very helpful staff. The trip up is excellent and the views are great across into Italy. The walk up to the summit is well the effort. There several viewing points on the way up the stone steps to the summit and photo opportunities... More

We basically went op the monte Generose by chance. We saw a sign beside the road pointing to it and followed the road up to where we were forced to stop. This road is not for the faint hearted (narrow, steep and along steep cliffs.... It is Switzerland so the road is in perfect shape). Parking at the end will... More
