Interesting traditional little old backstreet.

Interesting traditional little old backstreet. Various grain stores, drying rooms, houses from past times, right off the main street and only a 2 minute detour so worth doing.

The houses on this street bring you back to how things used to be, with stones at the base of the homes to keep mice out, Stone roofs and wood piled up underneath and some ancient craftsmanship. For fans of This Old House, Norm and the crew would have a field day here, but it is just a great way... More

This is a lovely part of Zermatt, dating back to the 16th Century, with traditional timber houses built on stone slabs on top of stilts. The stone slabs were there to keep out vermin. Houses like this can also be found in the surrounding villages and countryside.

To be honest not a huge amount to do in Zermatt and this street is well worth a visit. Fantastic 16th Century buildings and one is a bar(unfortunately shut when we went). One to not miss in Zermatt.

This is a really charming, well preserved little street, One can combine Hinterdorf strasse, Mountaineer's cemetery, the Museum and Church bridge in a small but packed schedule. Would strongly recommend.

If we hadn't been told to visit this area we probably would not have even known it was there. Just down the street from the Mont Cervin Palace Hotel, it is a collection of old structures from this area of Switzerland that illustrates what the buildings from long ago once looked like. Certainly nowhere near the style that predominates in... More

Strolled up & down the Hinterdofstrasse for an hour or so looking at the beautifully preserved old wooden structures, so pleased to see history being kept alive.

Hinterdorfstrasse is the old town of Zermatt. I knew about it from travel shows that I watched before coming to Zermatt and it was just like I expected. It's very accessible from the main town of Zermatt. Walking down the street between the old houses gave a very nostalgic feeling. The buildings themselves were very unique and interesting. There were... More

The old town is amazingly beautiful. Walking down the lanes with very old, well preserved wooden houses makes you feel a part of the past times. The houses built are splendid. The old town is very small part of the Zermatt but is worth visiting. It's a must visit when you visit Zermatt.

People wanting to take home some amazing pics may stop by to see this part of the city actually in the heart of the city. The imposing buildings is a must see and the stones that is spread over the place is just beautiful too.
