Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We so enjoyed walking around Lausanne when we visited. The stairs and old city are so charming with lots of photography opportunities.

This is a nice area with a steep staircase which leads you to to the cathedral and the surrounding area. Hard work but worth the effort to climb. Its easier coming down!!

Rather a useful than interesting attraction.
This medieval stairway is roofed and that's it. By no means, do not expect something like Chapel bridge in Lucerne.
It's the quickest link between the Lausanne Cathedral above and old town central square Place Palud.

A price of history as well as a shortcut to the open area of old town from the cathedral. You can tell it is old, and you can tell it will last many more years.

It's two minutes of your time, not out of your way at all while you're in the old town, and so much CHARM! It's not the stairs themselves, but the surrounding area, the quaint old buildings, the atmosphere, the thought of so many people before you in time traversing this area, whether by these wooden stairs or the adjacent cobblestone.

We came across these stairs when we got off the metro and were trying to find our way to the Cathedral. They are nice, certainly easier to walk up than using a steep street. Be careful of the handrails; I got a splinter from one of them.

Lausanne is fascinating among other things due to its being so vertical. From elevators from one street to another to the stellar views of the lake from many vantage points, the shape of the city kept delighting us. these stairs, which lead from the pedestrian shopping district to the cathedral, are a delight.

These are wooden steps covered by a wooden roof leading up to the cathedral. It is very picturesque. There are also cobblestone steps running parallel to these steps.

If you are visiting the Cathedral, you can either take these stairs to get there and/or see them from outside the cathedral. Since I had seen these in photos before, it was interesting to walk them and know you've seen it in person. Not at much going on in this locale at the time we were there, however.

We had just completed our tour of the cathedral and found our way to this old covered stairway Escaliers du Marche which connects the cathedral to lower city Place de la Palud. While the original stairs were first mentioned in the 13th century, the current covered stairway dates back to 1717. And it is really the most direct route to get between the higher and lower parts of the city - it is like stepping back in time and envisioning how important these steps were back in the middle ages. If only the stairs could talk and describe the history throughout the centuries. This should not be missed especially if you are visiting the cathedral and the lower Old Town.
