Fraumünster Church Zurich was an impressive example of Protestant Reformation. If only to view the beautiful stained-glass windows by Marc Chagall, as well as windows by Swiss artist Augusto Giacometti and 1914 British painter Heaton, it was worth the 5.CHF entry fee. A leisurely stroll through Fraumünster's former cloister can be done without charge.

Inside are 5 beautiful Chagall stained glass windows that he made in the 1970s. Definitely worth the visit for those who like art. There is an entrance fee, and photos aren't allowed. There is also an old crypt area that has been partially excavated.

This church is visible from almost area in the city...well its peak at least, simular to Grossmunster church. The building also has a paid audio tour and an underground museum which holds some of its history. What is most interesting about this building beside it protruding tower is it beautiful stained glass windows. It is interesting ane beautiful both inside and out.

I'd strongly recommend getting the audio option when getting the ticket to enter this church. The audio program explains everything that requires an explanation in this church - and that is a lot! You can enjoy the windows done by Chagall and other interesting sights in the church...

There are SIX Chagall windows in this Church. 5 at the front and then a rose on the side. This is one of the most unique opportunities to see Chagall’s work in a medium that was not his primary not even secondary. Further, it provides hope that “we can all get along.” To find Chagall’s work, an artist work which is so primarily Jewish themed and so full of Jewish references, in a church and that his art reflects the belief of another faith tradition from his own, is just so hopeful.

Do not miss this unique opportunity. Do not rush. Sit and just take it all in.

The Grossmunster which I reviewed in my last Trip Advisor review has great modern stained glass. The Fraumunster just across the Limmat river is a much nicer looking building and has been a rival to the Grossmunster for centuries. With this in mind they managed to convince the great Russian/French artist Marc Chagall to create a series of stained glass windows that would rival or outdo the Grossmunster. The bottom line is that you must visit both churches to appreciate how great the modern glass is in both.

The Chagall work completed in his 80's are simply stunning. Don't come to Zurich without seeing them.

Founded in 853, by the German King Louis, this church and accompanying convent was originally inhabited by the female members of the aristocracy of Europe. The existing structure standing today, is not the original church but also dates back to 1250. Ownership of the church passed to the city of Zurich after the Reformation. The Old Town church, located on the West Bank of the Limmat River, is easily recognizable by its tall green/blue steeple. Today, Fraumunster church claims its fame with its five gorgeous Marc Chagall stained glass windows. There is also a very informative crypt museum on the property. We enjoyed our time spent at Fraumunster Church.

Don't expect a Westminster Abbey type experience as this is a relatively small church. However, the modern stain glass windows are beautiful and worth seeing. Zurich is perfect for walking around. It feels like the world's most expensive village with all the sites and amenities within short walking distance.

Located by the old town square and bridge this beautiful church well worth a visit. Small CHF 5 entrance fee (bit unusual for a church but not expensive). Unfortunately my phone battery ran out for interior pictures but stained glass was vey impressive.

The Fraumünster is a church in Zürich. It was built on the remains of a former abbey which was founded in 853 by Louis the German for his daughter Hildegard. It was occupied by Hildegard and other aristocratic women back in that time. The cloister has some amazing artwork. Today it belongs to the Evangelical Reformed Church.
