This 12th-century cathedral has both historical and architectural significance: Ulrich Zwingli led an important sect of the Reformation from here in the early 1500s, and the cathedral's twin towers serve as perhaps the most recognizable landmarks in modern Zürich.

The cathedral is extremely lovely, with some very unusual stained glass windows depicting agates and other geological images. We particularly enjoyed the great doors with their intricately storied depictions. We wanted to see the famous cloister, but it is only open on weekdays, so if...More

While Grossmunster doesn't compare to the spectacular, ornate cathedrals of Italy or France, the architecture is still interesting. For photographers, the climb to one of the towers provides a wonderful panorama of the city - especially on a sunny day - and well worth the...More

Read the history and take in the meaning of the building. Well looked after as is the whole city. Don't walk past you have to take time to view

The stained glass windows are splendid (as are those in the Fraumunster, by Chagall, so make sure you visit both churches). The guide books mention the windows by Giacometti, and indeed they are superb, but take a look at the smaller displays by Sigmar Polke....More

The outside looks quite OK, especially from the bridge or the other side of the river. But the inside was a disappointment.

The Crypt with the sculpture of Charlemagne was intriguing. Also entombed are the two saints who were killed during the Reformation for being Catholic even though the Church is Catholic.

Impressive building. It is worth making the effort to climb up inside the tower, the views are excellent.

It is a nice cathedral and is a must see if you come to Zurich. However, it is no comparison to the enormous & breathtaking cathedrals in Italy or France.
